@zens the question of "is it UV or is it oxygen" is an interesting one as people in retro communities swear up and down UV exposure is what yellows plastics and i've had a dreamcast yellow to smoker teeth tinge completely light-sealed in a closet
UV affects thermal paper and keeping it dark should in theory keep it longer, but you're still fighting against the chemical stability of the paper itself regardless
i'm not sure, for thermal paper, if oxygen plays a part
@zens the quality of the image "burn" also influences it, a very finely dithered picture faded quicker than a highly contrasted text print for example
@zens longevity also depends on the quality of the thermal paper, i've printed on very cheap receipt rolls and had it fade in months whereas using a high quality fax thermal roll lasted for over a year so far under the same conditions
@zens i imagine you can make it last longer if you can laminate it in something that blocks UV light, but it's still not going to be a stable print
@zens not that i know of, anything of the sort about increasing the longevity of thermal prints boils down to "scan it"

lotta people asking me to suggest an “alternative framework”. my suggestion is: stop using frameworks. they are never as helpful as they claim to be, add an overhead of complexity, create needless barriers and limitations. and then in as little as 2 years the framework is obsolete and your app stops working, unless you rewrite it again in the new version or a different framework.
frameworks are a soul crushing treadmill. Invest in low or zero dependency codebases on APIs that never change.

someone just used React.js as an example of facebook “playing nice” and well.. i was able to interact with the react engineers on twitter years ago. they were quite shockingly open with the fact they intended react to be an embrace extend extinguish strategy aimed at the web as a whole, in tandem with react native. the long term vision was to have react native, painting directly to something like webgl or webgpu, then get rid of the rest of the web platform. super surprised they admitted it.

it’s a good reason to resist react.js even if you like it. every site that gets converted to use react.js brings meta a step closer to strangling the open web to death

not to mention even DS/3DS cartridges that use NAND can die over time if they're not powered with a certain frequency, if you have no power running through it you have no power running through it whether the eMMC controller has smarts in software or hardware
