So, when I think about what I should spend my time on, it’s not on software for old PCs, as much as they need it, because the complexity and burden of abandoned tooling is too great for one person. One day, not even GCC will run on, or compile for, Windows 10. #Linux is not the answer; It has less binary stability than Windows! I have a netbook with an i915 chipset which doesn’t work in Linux any more.

I’m looking at all my old computers that I need to decommission for scrap or giving away and it pains me that, whilst with a ton of time and effort I can get them running as well as possible, there is no practical use I can put them to; software has failed them.

A 10 year old computer is in many respects in a worse position than a 20 or 30 year old one because it’s software is built around the same principles of today, but is unusable slow for those tasks — an 8 bit computer is more useful than a Pentium 4 machine!

i hope Funko gets sued and boycotted because it would be great if an AI thing like this blows up in the owning company’s face (especially the AI company) for a change. this AI automation gold rush has been going on too long without being challenged in any meaningful way.
