Did you know that new #Emoji can be proposed by anyone, simply by following some guidelines laid out by the #Unicode consortium? There's a time window each year where they accept proposals, and a select few might make it into future sets.

This year I turned one in: "Circuit Board", which I was surprised to find 1. didn't exist and 2. had not been proposed before (though CPU and Microchip have both been submitted and declined in the last 5 years)

You can read my proposal here:

and you can see the Unicode emoji proposal guidelines here:
unicode.org/emoji/proposals.ht

Anyway, the odds aren't great of getting accepted, but if it IS then you can say "hey! I know the guy who submitted that one!"

Attached are the sample images I drew up for the proposal - which, incidentally, are now Public Domain as well. Enjoy!

just used interwebppc and ppcmc to browse and download music from youtube on an ibook g4 then burn them into a cd-r for an early 90s midi system we just got today and i feel awesome getting more life out of all these old machines

In February 2008, SanDisk announced SD cards with a built-in, fold-out USB connector, eliminating the need for a card reader. Did these ever reach the market? I've never seen one. theregister.com/Print/2008/02/

I'm pondering design for a super minimal #pocketComputer, not a phone replacement but rather a device tailored to do only what's useful to me not distracting, basically what do i need on an average day out when i don't want to be stuck in my phone?

Ideally i could make this modifiable in a way that anyone could tailor it to their own needs and make one, so:

If you had to choose 4 essential features to leave your phone at home, what would they be?

#openHardware #permacomputing

i mean i already pretty much reimplemented circuitpython's terminalio

chatty catty and negative nancy just entered a polycule with petty betty

jeez! i thought i'd received a dead pico2w (didn't test it before installing the shim, mea culpa) but no! you need to press the power button on the shim even without a battery and plugged into usb, then the pico works as intended!

guhh i would really have liked if this grove connector wasn't on this side of the board, probably going to remove it and solder straight to pads

the height (and the added width if i was using a grove cable) would make designing a case around it awkward
