Ukpol, rant

The Labour Party being Tory-like was inevitable when Corbyn was forced out. Never forget that the establishment did EVERYTHING they could to smear someone who had most energised left wing politics in years and bent over backwards to people like Farage.

@trans_lykanthropie I'm really happy with it! I think I'm gonna have to order another one so I've got a spare ^.^

@avon_deer But then again it was like this when we were young; progress has not helped people.

@avon_deer It's kind of a failing of education as an institution to provide actual literacy programs, not just in IT but also in media.

The amount of people I meet at work who don't even know where they save their work, because Windows obfuscates it, is staggering and always ends up a problem when they can't find their very important files.

@avon_deer Honestly this was inevitable. The writing was on the wall when MS decided Windows 8 was a good idea; they were just ahead of the times. Had it released a few years later I reckon more people would have loved the Metro layout.

Also schools don't have enough funding to teach proper computer classes so they just end up being product training rather than literacy.

@philpem I don't remember which way around this was but it was either Mandrake 7.0 or SuSE 7.2, the latter bought with manuals from PC World.

CW: eye contact in photos, hence marked sensetive.

Some photos of myself from the start of coming out as trans to about six months ago.

I hadn't realised that I've been wearing the same glasses for over two years, lol. Really need to get some new frames.

LLM and GenAI rant by Drew DeVault

"We are experiencing dozens of brief outages per week, and I have to review our mitigations several times per day to keep that number from getting any higher."

"If you personally work on developing LLMs et al, know this: I will never work with you again, and I will remember which side you picked when the bubble bursts."

drewdevault.com/2025/03/17/202

Holy shit, Drew has _had_ it.

And this, folks, is why some of us are so passionately hating LLMs and generative AI.

Should pale deazh wizh treble dread
make zhe ocean caves our bed
God who hear'st zhe surges roll
deign to save our suppliant soul.

(Tweaked zhis a little bit :3)

Fixed zhe ribbons and changed zhe colours, Eventually I'll decide what to write on zhem

Almost forgot; two years ago today I came out as MtF trans! ^.^ 🏳️‍⚧️💜

@philpem I've not yet been able to get my head around docker so it's just running directly on the server.

fitness, weight

Week... I forget: 120kg

Slow progress, but I'm started to fluctuate less :D

"You can change the ports that pihole tries to use"

That didn't work; it would just not map to whatever I set. In the end I just had to let pihole have https/443 for the time being.

At least it is working and I don't need https interally just yet.

Recent PiHole major release has rewrote the main web interface to lua and has incorporated its own web server... and upgrading to it has bricked the interface on my server because it clashes with an existing apache instance. 🙃

Hate flourishes through ignorance. When hearts & minds are opened, progress comes & hate withers to nothing.

Also another reminder that the older in society should be part of the conversation. They have value & are a part of our world.

"Over 50 years ago, NASA was able to get its Saturn V, a rocket nearly as large as Starship, to fly without ever having a failed launch over its 13-launch, six-year operational lifespan. This was a rocket designed with computers less powerful than a Casio watch, built with far less accurate techniques and materials, with check systems and procedures infinitely less sophisticated than anything today. Yet, engineers were able to ensure it never had a launch failure [...]"
