Figured out the CD player in my car is so old that it doesn't like 80 minute CD-Rs, just 74 minute ones.
Kinda sucks since they're harder to source, but at least it can play burnt CDs, which I kinda figured it couldn't.

“I genuinely believe Oasis are the most damaging pop-cultural force in recent British history. It’s easy to attack them for being musically regressive: after all, they didn’t just Stop The Clocks, to quote the title of their 2006 best-of, but rewound them by 30 years. But the real problem is that they set social attitudes back even further.

It’s no coincidence that Oasis are the band of choice for flag-shaggers and Reform voters”

With Firefox having AI added in the recent update. Here's how you can disable it.

  1. Open about:config in your browser.
  2. Accept the Warning it gives.
  3. Search browser.ml and blank all values and set false where necessary as shown in the screenshot, anything that requires a numerical string can be set as 0 .

Once you restart you should no longer see the Grey-ed out checkbox checked, and the AI chatbot disabled from ever functioning.

This is a proposal to expand the tried tl;dr standard for further usecases.

The authors propose

pw;dr - paywall; didn't read
ai;dr - ai, didn't read

This is a draft.

The Internet Archive losing its appeal means one thing: pirate stuff. Pirate brazenly. There’s no point trying to do it the nice way - you’ll get shut down anyway. Copy, share, and archive to your heart’s content. It’s the only way we’re keeping digital media and our cultural memory intact.

Wonder how long till AirTags get banned because they can be used to track the scam that's called "recycling" and the other scams of the so called "free market" and "secure supply chain":

I have walked this earth for almost fifty years, and today for the first time I heard somebody refer to a phoenix as a "molotov cockatiel".

And sure, it's not new to the world, it's just new to me. But the world still has undiscovered joy and wonder in it, it can still surprise you, and I thought I'd mention that.

So, update on the BT situation.
My mum finally has phone and internet back.
Once they transfer the new phone number back to her old phone number, then there will finally be a discussion of what happened and what will happen.

Feel how you want about Billy Joel and his music, but the fact that the dude thinks we should be taking baseball bats to the heads of open Neo Nazis is pretty rad if you ask me

For context Brazil only just left a dictatorship in 1985 as a result of a coup, a lot of people in Brazilian leadership were alive then and lived through it for 21 years.

The country's entire legal system is currently designed around preventing that from happening again. Musk refusing to participate in the investigation of the coup attempt by Bolsanaro fans is why X is banned. If you think that's about muh freeze peach you lack full historical context

I hate BT. Phoned up a couple of weeks ago to alter my mum's BT package to remove the TV and get a better deal on the phone and broadband.
Come this Tuesday and they just cancelled everything, but couldn't figure out what was happening until today. So my mum's been without internet or phone for 3 days and counting and the only thing BT can do is create a new account and rush it through... but who knows when that will be since they have to liase with OpenReach :(
7 hours on the phone in 3 days!

TIL that people with disabilities that prevent them from using print books can get virtually any audiobook at no cost through the "Talking Books" program. I heard about it from a reference librarian with the Maine Digital Library, but it's a national US thing. And people with dyslexia are eligible.

That’s one of the reasons why I take it personally when people use “AI” models and cryptocoins. You are being complicit in creating the demand that is threatening to directly destroy the environment I live in. None of this shit would be happening if there wasn't demand so I absolutely do blame you, personally, if you are a regular user of either of these things

There’s a cost to these tools and you’re pushing it onto others like an asshole

So, fuck you and the AI-generated horse you rode in on

just found out that when you have a cropped image in a google slides presentation and you export the presentation to a PDF file, the PDF actually just uses the original image with a clip set on it so it's really easy to extract the uncropped version ??? this seems potentially bad, definitely not the behavior most people would expect
