the sms soundchip is better than you think and i will fight people about this

Show thread

@onf i think my memory just got jolted into remembering i actually did try playing with AGI years ago, but before i was even into music sequencing... I'm remembering some of the example tunes one of the tools came with

@onf still! i wanna see what i'm dealing with

i LIKE challenging myself with hardware limitations

@onf if there's a tracker, you can bet i can work on it

case in point youtube.com/watch?v=M0pQ_gBJ38

just please please don't make me use MML :P

@onf also found this, which is from 2011 and was supposed to be part of the soundtrack for a sms game that never got made sadly computerfairi.es/media/h-T6rEs

@noelle yeah but i'm not really good at making something out of nothing ;w; adding things isn't what i do

@noelle in the case of gradius they didn't use dpcm, plus they limited themselves to one pulse channel and the triangle channel so the other channels would be free for SFX, understandably...

@onf it takes a bit of practice but i find just making covers for more limited systems easier than composing from scratch

i just wish there were any demand for it cause i'd love to work on a NES soundtrack today ;w; but i'm about 30 years too late

@noelle the disparity between the power drift port and THIS is what makes me angry

it could've been so much better

@noelle it just makes me so angry that the pc engine has a vastly superior sound chip to the NES (it's wavetable based on top of supporting samples) and copya systems/asmik turned this
