@envgen the reason is because they all have tea-making facilities so yeah, I can see that

hahahahahaha

y'know how rolex has long waitlists? well, they're by specific model

so now that they've released new models everyone who was on the waitlist for a sub now needs to sign up for the new waitlist

and their position on the waitlist doesn't carry over!

@mavica @revolverocelot wouldn't want to violate the gdpr by not keeping people's data around

it's only a commodore amiga if it's in charge of more than one ship at a time and has a fancy hat

@mavica not even making that up

that was his actual name and he was a massive prick

politics, unserious reply

@mavica @noelle *brings in... I dunno, Eminem for the audiobook version*

if you have 20 seconds...

@mavica double especially for anything with eight legs

they're the natural enemy of those of us with eight arms

(for real I'm arachnophobic though)

@noelle they all look like renders anyway so it might not have been a primary concern but ease of photoshop is always helpful

@noelle this of course is less of a concern for digital watches but a lot of the time the tradition is carried over

@noelle 10:10 is actually a long-standing standard for photographing watches for marketing materials, everyone does it

it's a position that's nice and symmetrical, doesn't cover up any of the bits on the dial like date window, text at the bottom, etc, and it frames the brand name and/or logo that's usually at 12

also it looks a little like a smiley face

@mavica if they're a couple bucks a month cheaper I might give them a shot but massively cheaper? hell no

considering it's a hemp pattern I'm expecting the green version will be repeatedly set to about 20 past 4

And now in actually interesting watch news, these have been announced by Seiko

Seiko Presage "Sharp Edges" series

Nicely finished, 39mm cases, 6R35 movements

The dial is inspired by a traditional hemp leaf pattern from the Heian period (794-1185) and apparently symbolise growth and prosperity

And you can buy all 4 of them for less than the cost of one of the recent Rolex releases (they're $1,000-ish each)

@Jo well... yes

basically that

but specially produced to hold that bit of software

with like, box art on them and stuff

I want software to come on cartridges again

Not like, SD card sized, that sort of data density scares me, but like size of a cigarette lighter and they go into a little compartment in the computer
