@noelle this of course is less of a concern for digital watches but a lot of the time the tradition is carried over
@noelle 10:10 is actually a long-standing standard for photographing watches for marketing materials, everyone does it
it's a position that's nice and symmetrical, doesn't cover up any of the bits on the dial like date window, text at the bottom, etc, and it frames the brand name and/or logo that's usually at 12
also it looks a little like a smiley face
@mavica if they're a couple bucks a month cheaper I might give them a shot but massively cheaper? hell no
considering it's a hemp pattern I'm expecting the green version will be repeatedly set to about 20 past 4
And now in actually interesting watch news, these have been announced by Seiko
Seiko Presage "Sharp Edges" series
Nicely finished, 39mm cases, 6R35 movements
The dial is inspired by a traditional hemp leaf pattern from the Heian period (794-1185) and apparently symbolise growth and prosperity
And you can buy all 4 of them for less than the cost of one of the recent Rolex releases (they're $1,000-ish each)
@Jo well... yes
basically that
but specially produced to hold that bit of software
with like, box art on them and stuff
@mavica ooh, yeah, like that
guess
@mavica is it a trick question and they're all real?
@mavica misskey any% speedrun
@zatnosk @noelle that was exactly the interpretation that was given when this came up
because apparently "deleting data" can somehow be interpreted as "processing data" and it's against the GDPR to process data without the consent of the person whose data it is
or at least that's how far I managed to reason it out before I got a headache
re: something that's been bugging me for close to 30 years
@dickmandrake @noelle well you've got to have fun with it, yknow?
@douglasfur tempting but that would require me to have a shrek
if I get on the waitlist now I might get one some time in 2030
@douglasfur the new models have smaller "ears" (the lugs) and a bigger face
this model is green
therefore this model is shrek
That whole viomi clusterfuck, domain block
@Jo I'm looking forward to hearing how suspending an instance is a violation of the GDPR
re: something that's been bugging me for close to 30 years
@noelle I've seen the explanation around here and there
probably not the authorial intent but it does nicely plaster over that plot hole
something that's been bugging me for close to 30 years
@noelle the events of Aladdin are actually the process of genie making him a prince
Ababwah was fake, all the parade was fake, but it was a step in making him a prince of agrabah by marrying princess jasmine
@mavica all software on that build is from canonical's package manager
Hedgehog wrangler, cat feeder, octopus whomst love smol critters
