honestly, despite the fact that i'm sitting here with skyrim going on my switch, bastion is an amazingly better game than skyrim and will be every day

skyrim is sort of like popcorn. you can spend a lot of time eating it but it just sort of disappears and is gone from your mind so quickly. i've never really felt skyrim as something that was particularly unique or groundbreaking to me.

all the adulation/reverence/remembering that skyrim's bland themesong gets should instead be rightly spent on the ost from bastion, which is unique and genuinely a thousand times better

potentially 🌶️ opinion:

a lot of vocaloid songs are kind of a flop in my eyes, because the best ones are songs that are aware that - while technically impressive - vocaloid singing still exists in uncanny valley

the best songs often work with this and lean into more of an electronica vibe, or are built around lyrics/a mood that is enhanced by this uncanny quality (like Meltdown, which is really grim lyrics-wise and exists as an exercise in the junction between lyrical meaning and upbeat song)

i actually have enormous fondness for catullus 16 not because i think it's good poetry, but because it's that type of delightful moment of history i love so much where you just go "look! humans is the same!"
