Here are my current set-on-install about:config options for Firefox, as well as going through Settings and turning off anything related to telemetry, "studies", or a Mozilla product. I'm not sure I've captured everything. At one point I was trying to be real rigorous about documenting my preferences but as Firefox became more and more hostile it became harder to fight back in a systematic way

@gifs_bot

"You develop an instant global consciousness, a people orientation, an intense dissatisfaction with the state of the world, and a compulsion to do something about it. From out there on the moon, international politics look so petty. You want to grab a politician by the scruff of the neck and drag him a quarter of a million miles out and say, โ€˜Look at that, you son of a bitch."

I threw away a permanent marker the other day. Today it showed up on my desk again with the word "permanent" slightly bigger and underlined

@TonicBH now these are the journalistic stands that I'll fight for. "Xth-gen" never sat well with me (and turns out to have been the domain of, like, two or three specific Wikipedians anyway).

The part that took me the most time was writing a decoder for a video from 1991. The video is a demo of the $HOME MOVIE system, 1152 x 900 with voice and music. HD video from 1991, folks!

I made a tour of an obscure window system called Bellcore MGR, made by the Bell Core Research and bearing a strong resemblance to Plan 9's 8.5.

The tour also comes with a short overview of the $HOME MOVIE film authoring tool from 1990. There are many screenshots, a 40-minute long video with Mozart and Liszt, and a hard disk image for 86box.

I've had this self promo reminded looking me in the face for three days, so:

I've written a series about what do do when you're not the boss but you're expected to do the boss's job. And the boss's job is Earth's ambassador to 48 extraterrestrial cultures who are causing havoc.

Here's the first one. Available for all devices, DRM-free, and name your price:

Boosts welcome. Sales will pay for gas to get my son to physical therapy and neurology appointments.

Another unapproved use of WD-40. But a fun one.

botsin.space shut down and took the Winamp Skins bot with it. Can anyone point me to a good instance for running such a bot? I think it's time to bring the bot back.

btw, I just want to note for other indies who do cons that the way this went down is that I walked by the table at the con, was too busy to stop, saw a giant "play the demo on steam" QR code and used it to add the demo to my steam library then walked on & played the demo 3 weeks later in my own time.

that QR code made the difference between someone passing by and an evangelist is what i'm saying

finally got around to playing the demo of Ambrosia Sky today after spotting it at Vancouver Game Garden and damn, stunned I haven't heard about this previously. "gorgeous story-action-scifi powerwash simulator" seems like the kind of thing everyone should be screaming about.
