Some landscape renders made with Bryce 3D come by on Mastodon this week and it reminded me of the first landscape renderer I used: VistaPro.
It was was one of many DOS programs on the "Virtual Reality Madness" compilation disc from 1993. VistaPro also came out on Amiga and Mac OS, and later Windows.
VistaPro (v1.01) didn't give you much control but the results looked stunning then, if you allowed your computer to render the highest quality image for a few hours that is.
there's a third thing coming in the mail today, an Apple 5x IDE DVD-ROM drive, which will hopefully be in enough working order to correctly respect boot preferences in my G3 blue-and-white and get OS X 10.2 installed on it. we shall, of course, see whether that brings the score up to 2 for 3, or whether i'll have yet another useless IDE optical drive in the collection
presently, 1 for 2, for hardware resuscitation this week.
- got my new motherboard for my gaming rig, which had decided to quit POSTing after I tried to FIX THE CLOCK IN BIOS. That machine is now running again, perfectly.
- also got a disk cleaning kit for my Sony Mavica FD-73. unfortunately this model does not like to use cleaning disks, it spins for only a split second before spitting out a drive error. so getting it to read disks again is going to mean taking it apart. sighhhhh
Phantasy Star 3 opening track, arranged on Roland MT-32 (1987 LA synth) by me. Real hardware recording.
I sometimes listen to stuff like this that I've arranged to go to sleep to. Did this by ear, btw.

well no idea how i did it (but i know i have a valid backup of that amiga drive, because it's recent and it runs on winuae) but looks like there's a newer fork of win32diskimager that can work with physical drives and not just drive letters https://github.com/dnobori/DN-Win32DiskImagerRenewal/releases

Someone dubbed the #cybertruck the "WankPanzer" and now that's its name.
I don't make the rules.
Such a beautiful game. So rare to see this kind of risk taken by a AAA+ game studio.
For rainy days we have a treadmill but it's locked into the vendor's subscription service if you want to watch videos.
Except...tap the bottom left 10 times, wait 7 seconds, tap 10 more times, up pops a number, use that as a seed to generate a number with lrand48, reduce modulo 999999 (not 1000000!) and type that number back in, and now you have an Android tablet with web browser and access to YouTube.
She will forgive almost anything once. Twice, if youβre lucky.
On the third transgression, there will be consequences.
Once, she could be easy. Once, she could be a childhood pet, a motherβs maiden name, an elementary schoolβs mascot. Once, she was unbreakable. Now, she is become endless strings of letters and numbers, incomprehensible, unpronounceable, holy and profane. Speak her secret names aloud and wake the end of days.
