this stats screen on After Dark Solitaire is a pretty accurate representation of how the last year of my life has gone

it's like recruiters don't care about the job you _want_, only the job you _had_

Show thread

every single "looking for a job" website on the internet has been meta-gamed half to death or is a huge vector for spam and scams. there's got to be a better way to see who just has goddamn work available and will talk to me about it, without it just being recruiters for BigMegaCorp wanting me to do the exact job I don't want anymore.

no matter how much I erase the skills from old job and rewrite my profile to say "I am not interested in working in semiconductors!" the recruiters keep coming.

I have just relased a new version 2.9 of GrafX2, "the ultimate 256-color painting program".
Binaries are available for Haiku, Gamepark Holdings GP2x, Nintendo Switch, Atari Mint and Windows (yes, our build automation somehow focuses only on the most ridiculous platforms). For Linux it should hopefully be updated in your favorite distribution soon.
Not a lot of changes in this version, many bugfixes and more fileformats supported (Apple IIgs, C64, CPC, Atari TT...)

New Secret Area post: PopStar Guitar on the PS2.

A knockoff of Guitar Hero/Rock Band, it really feels like something your mom would get instead of the real thing.

Likes, reposts and comments appreciated, as always.

I bet everyone who knows me is really tired by now of hearing the story about that time I bought an FPGA board off AliExpress and instead the the vendor sent me a collectors-edition Dragonball Z action figure. In my defense however this is a really good story

GEnie

Air Warrior

Kesmai is the most important innovator in online gaming, and it was their impetus that launched the GEnie service.

Their real-time 3D game Air Warrior originally for the Macintosh brought the thrill of PLATO flight game deathmatch to the mainstream.

With this new preview build now available, the next stage of work begins in replacing as many of the still re-used plug-ins from 5.666 with WACUP native options. This is also a requirement to then allow the currently beta only Windows 64-bit build to be eventually made available.

It's been just over 3 years since a #WACUP preview build showed an update was available. getwacup.com/preview/

That's now happened with build 1.99.12.18980 available with a cumulative changelog of over 1701 entries compared to 2021's build 1.0.21.7236.

There's been many more changes in the interim-builds to the first full preview build to run without the need to re-use the #winamp 5.666 core exe (note: it still needs to re-use a few of the plug-ins & supporting dlls getwacup.com/files.html#winamp )

This is the sort of thing more people should be writing re emulation. Point people at legit legal games. Show use cases beyond piracy. Bravo. #retrogaming

The time has arrived: Escape From Evil Island is now available as pay-what-you-want (for Windows, MacOS, or Linux) on itch.io!

If you're feeling a hankering for some old-school DOS-style platforming action, Evil Island should fit the bill nicely. I hope you enjoy!

that feeling when I'm trying to type a password or something sensitive, and notice halfway through that text is not appearing in the field, and the brief horror that emerges when I try to figure out what in hell I was typing into instead of the password field

Some landscape renders made with Bryce 3D come by on Mastodon this week and it reminded me of the first landscape renderer I used: VistaPro.

It was was one of many DOS programs on the "Virtual Reality Madness" compilation disc from 1993. VistaPro also came out on Amiga and Mac OS, and later Windows.

VistaPro (v1.01) didn't give you much control but the results looked stunning then, if you allowed your computer to render the highest quality image for a few hours that is.

there's a third thing coming in the mail today, an Apple 5x IDE DVD-ROM drive, which will hopefully be in enough working order to correctly respect boot preferences in my G3 blue-and-white and get OS X 10.2 installed on it. we shall, of course, see whether that brings the score up to 2 for 3, or whether i'll have yet another useless IDE optical drive in the collection
