Now, I don't have screenshots or footage of FoxFire 13. Randy Rasa's own website doesn't seem to acknowledge that it exists, when it even has copies of his oldest DOS solitaires. And I suspect the reason why that is, is because the game does not run on common hardware anymore.

FF13's system requirements are simple; it'll run on a 286 with an EGA card and a mouse. Problem is, it handles the mouse very strictly, in a way that even DOSBox is incompatible with.

When Strict Adherence to hardware standards renders a game completely unplayable - the story of FoxFire 13.

Written sometime in the early 1990s by Randy Rasa, better known for his "Solitaire Suite" line, FF13 is a DOS solitaire game of pairing cards that add up to 13, on a 4-column tableau. Cards are dealt to the tableau in fours, one to each column, and if there are empty columns, a single card may be moved to fill the blank.

Rebecca "Burger Becky" Heineman passed away yesterday. If you don't know her, she was the first video game champion in 1980, then immediately went to work programming video games because she got so good at them by literally disassembling to find out how they worked.

She was a major inspiration for me not only for being a trans woman in the industry but because of the amazing technical feats squeezing performance out of every bit of hardware she could touch.

My heart will ache for a good while.

First, jack up your clucker on a standard non-profligate eXistenz. You will need TIXZ, _J9, ΩωΩ for storage, and BIGBOO for auth. You just need to know GO, JS, TS, CSS, CS:GO to glue/route/rawt them together.

gross bodily function talk

i find that i have to sneeze every time i have a particularly large bowel movement. i have absolutely no idea why. one of life's mysteries that is just very difficult to talk about

in case I've ever given anybody a false impression of Unflapping Confidence, I assure you that I am, in fact, a social coward.

like, oh fuck, what did I miss, how badly am I gonna need to tiptoe for the next several hours before my internal Alert Phase calms down, possibly several *more* hours before I stop reflexively flinching at any noise louder than a keystroke

For some reason, I feel a need to Be Aware of everything happening in the house. I cannot make myself drown out conversations and noises. If people are talking and I cannot hear them, I *must* quiet myself down to know what they're saying. This is either a superpower or some Pavlovian behavior.

Which is why The Dread sets in, heavily, when the only thing I can hear from 3 rooms over is the sound of packing tape, occasional banging, and Mom yelling "Fine, be that way!"

Today's oddware: The HP Infrared Access Point: NetBeamIR. With this monolith-looking box with a HAL 9000 aperture on the front, you can bridge IrDA devices with Ethernet! Who needs WiFi?! 😁

#RetroComputing

The pen-pressure handling is a little weird (pushing harder thickens the *entire line*) but, y'know, if i ever have the urge to draw a quick and dirty doodle, maybe this is the thing.

Plugged in my tablet again and remembered my instance has a doodle function built into it.
