Anyone who's spent time in smaller online forums has met a mod like Musk. You can tell it's gonna be a disaster from the moment they take over. Using their mod powers to settle personal scores, making up new rules to justify them, apologizing and reversing course, taking polls, offering to step down and then not doing it...

i think the thing with social media is that when you're new anywhere people will (generally, unless they're assholes) give you a modicum of attention for being new stimulus to their feeds, and unless you manage to court a following after a while you will no longer have that attention. that's what drove me to mastodon in 2017 and that's what drove me back to twitter in 2021, and each time i noticed i got more attention on my work no matter how hard i posted about it.
