Anyway I think the rise of visibility of trans people in general and NB/GNC people in particular has probably played a direct part in gender reveal parties being such A Thing in recent years as reactionary transphobes subconsciously try to find ways to reaffirm their worldview

The series has been running for almost 20 years now. Imagine if you got the first game as a kid, and you kept up with the series this whole time. And you find out after all that time that the main villain the protagonists have been fighting this entire time… is, basically, YOU.

I’m not even into Kingdom Hearts, so I might have some of this wrong, but from my understanding:
In the final cutscene, your character (not you — this’ll be important later) has to choose between going to “sleep” or dying and getting reincarnated, which is already darker than I expected any Disney tie-in game to ever get.
Those who go to sleep have their hearts eaten by their cute animal companions to protect them, which turns them into Dream Eaters.
@deejvalen Yeah, apparently the final story arc went live in Japan recently, and it has something that is very definitely an ending.
