I hate phones but what I hate worse is leaving voice messages.
I tried to return a call I needed to for several days, the other party never answered. Didn't leave voice mail.
Finally I decided to at least leave a voice message so they knew I was trying to return their call. I'm quite confident that was the most neurotic voice message they got today. Especially when I concluded it by remembering that I didn't say who I was at the outset, so I added who I was with the trailing words "and this is why I hate to leave voice mail." Click.

If you read down the page (on the website) it says he offers a reduced cost, if affordability is an issue.
I've built a new website to consolidate & signpost all my projects & stuff. There's more work to do to get all my creative work & writing off 2 advert-riddled Wordpress sites. But here's the skeleton http://bridgetmckenzie.uk/
Noise-canceling headphones are the best invention since someone came up with the idea of sex.
It also provides stability in uncertain times, and through inflation. I bought my house 20 years ago, the mortgage is now small enough I could pay it off, if I had to, and my mortgage payment is less than half what I'd be paying to rent something much smaller in my part of SoCal.
Home ownership is the American dream: not only do you get a place to live, free from the high-handed dictates of a landlord, but you also get an asset that appreciates, building intergenerational wealth while you sleep - literally.

no-one: whatcha doing?
me: oh, you-know, just comparing generic drugs my insurance company is forcing me to choose between instead of the non-generic drug my dr prescribed. they're not the same thing at all, but they're approved for #ADHD too and much cheaper, and saving the insurance company money is what's really important here.

A guess, from a cross-correlation in my life. I have a food sensitivity, to a fairly common ingredient in US foods. Sometimes when I try to explain why I can't go eat the treat they brought in, they jump to the conclusion that it's gluten, and give me The Look.
"Oh, you poor, sad thing - you've bought into that whole gluten fad, haven't you?"
Some think autism is a fad.
Woke up this morning to find a crew working on the trees around our apartment complex. Thereβs a ton of loud machinery (saws, wood chipper, etc.) and I didnβt know this was scheduled for today. Itβs been going on for hours. In the past, I would have been very hard on myself for not being able to tolerate the noise better. Now, I understand that my noise sensitivity is just a part of me, and I am taking steps to accommodate myself rather than berate myself. Itβs a small but profound shift. #ActuallyAutistic #LateDiagnosed
Memories of the guy who explained (after Prop 8 passed) that he *had* been an ally, but the protests closed down streets, tied up traffic, and made his drive home unpleasant. He just couldn't support us after that.
I didn't consider it a huge loss.
Repeat after me:
Being an ally entitles you to exactly nothing.
It does not give you access to our bodies or the spaces those bodies inhabit. It does not give you a say in how we choose to protest or resist our oppression. It does not give you the right to police our actions, our customs, or our language.
If your allyship is conditional on any form of preferential treatment, it's not allyship.

Let me guess - his defense was "I didn't do nothing - I was just hanging around!"
So... me. Work in aerospace, more space, not as much aero. Can fix my own car, choose not to. Can fix the random appliance of your choice. Hardcore introvert in person, which is why I love online. Lifelong science fiction fan. Read constantly. Scalzi is my favorite author, because he mixes exactly the right amount of snark into his writing. Together with a guy 30+ years, married since it was legal. Own a home in CA and don't plan to leave unless I immigrate to another country.
