The speech by Frederick Douglass for the Ladies' Anti-Slavery Society of Rochester, NY on July 5th, 1852. He was asked to speak on July 4th, but he chose July 5th instead, to commemorate the abolishment of slavery in New York on July 5th, 1827
At the beginning of the wedding, the newlyweds are blessed with Korovay, and at the end, the godparents distribute the loaf among the guests, as if sharing the happiness of the young family with everyone present.

I haven't had to move in more than 20 years. This is the longest (by at least 4x) that I've ever lived in the same place.
Wasps eat pollen, with the bees. I've watched them on the Big-Ass-Overgrown-Flowering-Bush I leave uncut for the bees. I didn't know it would also attract wasps, but they've been harmless, so I let them do their thing.

59 years ago, Pres. Johnson signed the 1964 Civil Rights Act, shaping America as we know it today. 60 years ago, everyday activities like dining, hotels, & public trans were pockmarked by segregation & discrimination. This Act is the most comprehensive civil rights legislation since Reconstruction, & we owe it all to the tireless efforts of ordinary citizens in the American civil rights movement.

I'm able to easily detect negative emotions (anger, frustration) in other people's expressions, but not positive/affirmational (compassion/love) emotions. I've been told that's common in people with the kind of childhood I had.
@actuallyautistic Okay, folks... riddle me this.
When my ex-wife was glaring at me, I did not see the glare, and this caused us a whole bunch of disputes over the years.
The thing is, however, that if you put pictures of people in front of me and you ask about how they feel, I'm going to get it right.
So I'm confused.
Are there autistic people who can pass the "tell me what this person is feeling?" test on the basis of pictures, but fail to notice the feelings displayed on folks' faces when they are involved in a situation with those folks?
Like... if they are being tested in a clam setting, they can do it. (In a clam setting, at the bottom of the sea. Har... har... I meant a calm setting.)
But if they are in a possibly anxiety-inducing situation, the ability goes out the window?

The group @actuallyautistic boosts everything posted to it - it's automatic.
But boosting in general is a generic act, not a positive affirmation. It simply posts it for attention to the people who follow you. For better or worse.
ableist language
@LeatherCubAndrew @Claire @takishan @RosethornRangerTTV @actuallyautistic hi friends, thank you for pushing back against nonsense. I follow the @actuallyautistic group, who boosted the comment and that is how it saw it. Maybe they would explain what they saw to boost in it.

I can sort of do that, for things like dental appointments. I close my eyes and go somewhere else, in my head. Memories, or pure imagination, it doesn't matter, as long as I'm anywhere else.
@theautisticcoach @actuallyautistics @actuallyautistic I get a massage every couple of months. I'd do more often if money and time allowed. My dislike of being touched by strangers has a professional context loophole; as long as I have a talk with them ahead of time about "I'm never sure if I'm going to be ticklish, but keep the pressure on the firm side and that will help" they always stay on the right side of any sensory issues.
So... me. Work in aerospace, more space, not as much aero. Can fix my own car, choose not to. Can fix the random appliance of your choice. Hardcore introvert in person, which is why I love online. Lifelong science fiction fan. Read constantly. Scalzi is my favorite author, because he mixes exactly the right amount of snark into his writing. Together with a guy 30+ years, married since it was legal. Own a home in CA and don't plan to leave unless I immigrate to another country.
