Toxic masculinity is toxic to everyone, including the man who has it.
What a sad, narrow, limited life.
I'm just going to leave this here, because really, what can be said?

Interesting stat from this poll is that the Rejoin/Stay Out preference across the UK now exactly matches the Scottish Remain/Leave vote *on the day of the actual #Brexit referendum* - 23 June 2016.
Took you a while, but you got there.
Watch out! It could be a flerken!

Yes, this. I can get hyperfocused on anything I'm doing - just narrow in until that's the whole universe - but it doesn't have to be something that interests me.
The special interests thing is different, because I want to learn everything I can about it, however long it takes, and I'm perfectly happy taking breaks to digest what I've learned before I go back for more.

I have definitely been conditioned to think I am to blame for everything that goes wrong
@dpnash@mastodon.online
I sometimes throw it in when the recipe doesn't call for it. I'm making beef fajitas today, and I've started using merlot instead of beef stock, with the spices and simmering. It adds a nice flavor.
One of the things that has really helped my mental health was recognizing the difference between fact statements and choice statements. For instance:
Fact Statement: I feel lonely.
Choice Statement: I will always be lonely.
Fact Statement: I don't have a lot of social skills.
Choice Statement: It's impossible for me to learn social skills.
That being said, if you feel depressed and anxious no matter what you do, then you need medical help. For some reason in our culture, we treat the brain like it's not a part of our body. I have a hormone imbalance and need a low dose of hormones to keep my endometriosis from getting worse. If you have a chemical imbalance in your brain, then you might need help balancing that too, and there's absolutely no shame in something you cannot help. And please don't feel scared if the first thing you try doesn't work, this is true for many meds, most people try several meds and doses before it works right, be honest and keep trying.
An observation on how #Mastodon is growing π
Over the past month, multiple journalists from top outlets have contacted me related to content Iβve shared.
While this was not uncommon on #Twitter when I was active there, itβs relatively new for me in the #fediverse. I suspect this suggests professional news outlets are becoming more comfortable here & posts have increasing impact. Good.
I saw a take on the whole "alpha male" thing here the other day that resonated with me, having spent a decade or so working for software companies.
In software development the alpha version is unstable, buggy, prone to locking up or crashing, and generally should be kept away from the public until it can be more developed. So, sure, they're the alphas.
@VeryBadLlama I've seen lot of unhinged alpha male takes (or whatever they're calling themselves these days) but this is.... I mean I think I'm honestly impressed?

I've never liked the feeling of being out of control that alcohol gives me. I drank more when hubs and I first met, because he managed a bar, and was very involved with a bar-centric charitable group. When that stopped, so did I. I haven't had anything alcoholic in years, beyond cooking with wine.
I'm fine. Turned out to be a sloppy nail-trimming job, and a jagged bit of a toenail cut the next toe over. Next time I'll pay more attention, and round the edges of the toenails when I trim them.
@ScottSoCal @actuallyautistic Definitely one of those time that nerves doing nerve stuff would be nice. You OK?

And to demonstrate how contradictory we can be: I also am bothered by the sound of the wind, but I love the feel of it. The random shoves and pulls and tugs.
So... me. Work in aerospace, more space, not as much aero. Can fix my own car, choose not to. Can fix the random appliance of your choice. Hardcore introvert in person, which is why I love online. Lifelong science fiction fan. Read constantly. Scalzi is my favorite author, because he mixes exactly the right amount of snark into his writing. Together with a guy 30+ years, married since it was legal. Own a home in CA and don't plan to leave unless I immigrate to another country.
