I'm more likely to hand money to someone on the street corner, holding a sign, than I am to offer it to someone I know, because I've had bad reactions when I've offered to give or loan money to people I know who are experiencing financial trouble. Some of them get very offended.
I can't myself fortunate that most of my earworms are 30s and 40s torch songs. I like those.

Fellow Black people - I know that in light of the #jacksonville killing, some people booed the white suprem-, er, Intellectually Diverseโข governor DeSantis of Florida, given his vocal and political support of white nationalism. However, as a Black community, we have to remember that protesting violent white supremacy sometimes makes white people feel sad! And angry! And isn't that really a kind of racism in itself, if you think about it?
Anyway, I'm happy to draw your attention to this helpful book, collecting all the wisdom of white Controversial Thinkersยฎ like DeSantis and all those other bitch-faces about the best way to protest against racism. Compromise!
I heard about Red,White, and Royal Blue as a movie, and I watched it. It was cute, and distracting. During the closing credits I saw it was based on a book, and I'd just finished one, so I bought it. The book is usually better than the movie.
Oh yeah, so much better. The events aren't compressed, the characters are better developed - and there are more of them. Get the book.
I read an article that said what makes an earworm is knowing almost, but not all of a song. Your brain gets stuck in the missing pieces and goes back to it again and again. To resolve, listen to the song, start to finish.

The problem with that is, any showdown would inevitably be appealed to SCOTUS. This SCOTUS, with Rapey McBeerBoy, The Handmaid, Uncle "I got mine, fuck you" Thomas, and the rest of the wackjobs.
I'd be very nervous about trying to appeal anything to this court.
I know mastodon has issues, I know the fediverse is basically a prototype of what it could be. I know itโs annoying when people are snobby about masto despite its faults.
But for real, if we want this shit to succeed, weโve got to also love what is good here and be growing it. That doesnโt mean yelling about how all other social media sites suck. It means focusing on what weโre getting right here, listening carefully to complaints, and putting a little energy into solving problems

A few days ago I started to tell hubs about something that had made me really angry, then I stopped and said "Just letting you know, this is not the time to tell me I over reacted, or roll your eyes." I told him, he didn't downplay it, and it actually turned into a good conversation (not an argument) about the times he *has* been dismissive.
