If you truly want to see crime reduced, you would be hell-bent on ensuring inmates leave prison in a better headspace than when they went in.

If you’re focused, instead, on taking as much from them as possible, you’re not really interested in reducing crime. What you’re interested in, is satiating your lust for revenge.

Did we learn anything new from this outrageous spectacle? Probably not. But it should serve as a crucial reminder of what American democracy is up against, what the GOP has become, and what we must expect from Republicans going forward.
