One of my own (very minor) creations. Nearly everyone who has seen it has called it dark, but I see the open door, with light spilling out. #DigitalArt
I don't know when that was, but in the 1980s, when I bought my first house in the US, my mortgage interest rate was 16%, and I counted myself lucky.
Well, calling something what it is has been problematic.
FWIW, he was spot-on. It was propaganda.
I'm sure I've read the first one - yes, just checked, and it's on my Kindle. I didn't know it was a series. I'll have to look at the rest of them.
@ScottSoCal another book series that really understands the media, PR and behind the scenes machinations for big alien questions is the Not Alone series by Craig Falconer.

And her definition of what it means is wrong in some foundational assumptions.
Neo-nazis (yes, with an actual Nazi flag) brought guns to a drag show. The local sherriff's office cited the bar for serving one underage person, stalked performers to their homes, and is now evicting the bar. They were fine with the armed Nazis.
I just deleted my bird account. I am equal parts sad for what Iβve left behind and excited for what lies ahead.

Is this the Queen of Canada, or whatever insane thing she calls herself?
Love that book - re-read it just a few weeks ago.
@ScottSoCal thanks for the follow. Read your bio and just stumbled on this photo of one of my favorite books by John Scalzi.
I ordered one of these in 2018. It never arrived. Now every year this shows up in my FB feed and I'm annoyed again.
I mean, it's not like they stabbed me in the back or anything, but it was $20 bucks.
I had culture disconnect sitting in a hotel room in Garching, watching Hogan's Heroes dubbed in German. It was a surreal moment.
It's so weird watching American TV shows that I regularly download/watch (in English) dubbed in German.
Obviously, the voices are wildly different.
Characters with accents, or specific vocal patterns, suddenly have none, and everyone speaks German.
Imagine a scene involving rivalries between racially mixed gangs in central LA, but they're all speaking and shouting in proper accentless German.
It's disconcerting for me, like a bad acid trip.
#CultureShock bites me in the ass once again.
So... me. Work in aerospace, more space, not as much aero. Can fix my own car, choose not to. Can fix the random appliance of your choice. Hardcore introvert in person, which is why I love online. Lifelong science fiction fan. Read constantly. Scalzi is my favorite author, because he mixes exactly the right amount of snark into his writing. Together with a guy 30+ years, married since it was legal. Own a home in CA and don't plan to leave unless I immigrate to another country.
