time to listen to a bunch of random popular 90s alternative rock/grunge to hopefully distract myself from the fireworks still going off at midnight

I'm making this poll because I've shown the show to a few folks who are not huge game show nerds like me, and they seem flabbergasted at the concept from the get-go

Despite it being (mostly) a mundane Jeopardy! clone.

Poll for folks:

If I told you there was a game show in the 1990s called "Debt" where the grand prize was to pay off your debt/bills, what would be your response to that be?

Went outside expecting sun, got clouds instead

Oh well, still looks nice tho

bonus selfie since I haven't shared one with my haircut from a few weeks ago

While in meetings yesterday I had one of the robots print this, and then I enjoyed some delicious clam chowder. Fun fact, adding clam chowder unlocks a secret level in the original Ecco the Dolphin cartridge.

Today I was reminded that old online chats offered context awareness for the people online: you knew you won't be a bother to a friend who has a smiley flower as a status; and you knew you might not be getting a quick reply from someone who's Away.

Today I don't even know if my friends are online or not. The messenger apps make the assumption that everyone is online, and if not, they will receive a push notification, and will reply to you as soon as possible. But this assumption is barely true. I bet it makes lives harder, especially for ND people

re: pain, rant

A bit on the mend today but the pain's still kinda there.

I think this back and body pain, despite it not being debilitating, is making me at least feel miserable and irritable, especially when talking with folks.

Apologies in advance if I feel a bit snippy at the moment.

re: pain, rant

Last night was me struggling to move as I felt a modest amount of pain around my back and upper body. A general, dull ache.

Even after resting I don't feel better.

I have an immense fear that this will become "the new normal" for me, and I am genuinely scared about that.

pain, rant

I don't talk much about my personal problems these days, but I have been feeling back pain and other kinds of pain for the past month and some days are more bearable than others

I got a new chair which has helped, but I'm still feeling that ache

I can't tell if it's aging, or I have a genuine problem, and I'm kinda worried, ngl

Today I learned about Jim Blashfield, the guy who did music videos for Talking Heads' "And She Was," Nu Shooz's "I Can't Wait" and Michael Jackson's "Leave Me Alone."

Very absurdist yet very eye-catching.

Worth looking into those videos, just for the surreal nature of them all.

that Stargate SG-1 show seems pretty neat

New on the Secret Area: The Version Everybody Knows: A small rant about how tough it can be find alternate mixes for songs in the streaming era.

@renbymon I'm gonna guess the single version was initially considered the final version, but then they went back and did some vocal overdubs/edits, put that version on the album, and then had later releases of the single be just use the album version

cause when you mentioned this, I was looking at Discogs for this and noticed there's versions that use the regular title that are likely that single version, while later releases say it's the "Album Version."

@TonicBH I meant to comment on this back when you posted it but forgot. The one that comes to mind for me is a version of Pretty Fly (For A White Guy) which has extra words in the chorus and, IMHO, actually scans better than what they went with.

It was only on one of the CD singles released in Europe, and I had to track that single down to be able to hear it again.

@renbymon oh god I genuinely didn't know this version exists

just replace it with the "HEY HEY DO THAT BRAND NEW THING" from the album version and you got the perfect combo

Realizing my legacy might be "the gal who found where Halo with Chips came from" and I don't know how to feel about this
