Microsoft Windows: an incompatible clone of Digital Equipment VAX/VMS that thinks it's an incompatible clone of Digital Research CP/M underneath an incompatible clone of Xerox Pilot and an incompatible clone of the Dynabook concept.

@erincandescent i did some digging for a higher quality version and found that this is the July/August '94 issue of Project X, you can see it archived here: projectxarchive.com/issue29_me

YouTube lament

* Search YouTube for a video older than my parents.
* Find perfect match in a sea of irrelevant results.
* Watch & listen: It fits my playlist perfectly!
* Click "+Save" button.
* Toaster pop-up: "This action is turned off for content made for kids"

Quality design decision from the minds who think every video should have two ads every three minutes.

I just saw someone refer to the X formerly known as Twitter as "Xitter," and I've been exposed to enough Portuguese for decades that my first instinct was to pronounce the name as "shitter."

We've made magnetic tape at home, and it (sort of) works. I was hoping to improve its quality, but so far I had no progress in the last month, so might as well share what me and @yottatsa managed to do, plus some thoughts on the topic.

Microsoft ended its support for Windows 1.0 on December 31, 2001, making it the longest-supported out of all versions of Windows.

i need to know about the last support call about windows 1.0. i need to know about who was running windows 1.0 that late and for what

Two things that happened this week:
- YouTube started banning the use of ad blockers
- Google was found serving ads with malware

We thought Google hit rock bottom with #privacy.

Its new beta feature on Google Files for #Android called “Smart Search" is the trap door.

This creepy new feature on by default & scans every file on your phone. Why is this bad? Because it could potentially ruin your life. (1/3)

It depends on which way inclined they are. No judging.

Big Mama Thornton: Forgotten Pioneer of Rock and Roll

Even if you didn’t see the recent film, everyone has heard of Elvis and heard him sing the words, “I ain’t nothin’ but a hound dog.” This was his signature song—-the one that propelled him to fame and an estimated lifetime earnings of $4.3 billion.

It is less likely you have heard of Willie Mae “Big Mama” Thornton.

One of the reasons I want Xenia the Fox to replace Tux the Penguin as the Linux mascot is so the bigots in the Linux community get outraged enough at queer symbolism that they basically see themselves out and save us the work of booting them out.
