reminder: all those 'homemade hacks' for looking at an eclipse (looking through CDs, sunglasses, etc.) are going to damage your eyes permanently, and you won't notice until much later. they do not work.

you have exactly three valid options:
- look through certified eclipse glasses from a known-good manufacturer for <30s at a time at most
- go to your local observatory, they probably have equipment set up to do this safely
- project the eclipse on the ground using small holes but DO NOT look at the eclipse directly, also not through small holes

anything else will leave you with eye damage for the rest of your life. you do not want eye damage.

Literally no change at all, and now the validation message is back.

And I solved it. Apparently, the order of multiplicands matters significantly in CSS (or at least to a validator).

calc(2 * 3lh) is invalid.
calc(3lh * 2) is valid.

Length times unit-less value is valid CSS, but unit-less value times length is not, according to the W3C CSS Validator. I wonder if it's using the rules for validating division, where the operand order matters, for validating multiplication, where it shouldn't.

The W3C CSS Validator was giving the message "Value Error : max-width The types are incompatible 2ch)" on the following CSS:

:root { --sprocket-width: 3lh; }

@media screen and (width > calc(80ch + 6lh)) {
.code:has(pre) {
max-width: calc(100% - (2 * var(--sprocket-width)) - 2ch);
}
}

The validator was. Now, with no change at all to the max-width line, it's passing validation.

"Hey, can anyone help me with this CSS validation error? Wait, let me get the exact message again."

*Fixes a typo buried deep in a string of comments hundreds of lines up from the nearest validation error.*

*Re-validates document to get the validation error message back.*

*The document passes and is declared valid CSS.*

The fastest way to get VIP treatment when you land...seriously, how dumb do you have to be to try something like this? This person on Reddit stole my thoughts verbatim: "committing federal crimes from inside a sealed metal tube that lands exactly where the feds are waiting is certainly a strategy."

MDN needs to add a column for SeaMonkey in its browser compatibility list tables.

I regret to inform everyone that my copy of QBittorrent escaped its sandbox last night and downloaded a whole bunch of content owned by major corporations, and then my copy of Jellyfin broke containment and added those unfortunately-downloaded media files to its various libraries. I'm conducting an internal investigation to figure out how this happened, which will involve consuming these media files until the answers become apparent. Thank you for your cooperation during this trying time.

It's amazing how many telemarketers call my workplace with amazing offers, only to balk when I say the owner would love to get that offer information in email. :3c

Hi! I have a suggestion: Stop doing whatever you're doing. Go hug a fluffy kitty instead! :neocat_happy_blep:

I wonder how people will buy tokens to use the city-sized slop machines once no one can afford PCs spacious enough to boot the sloperating systems required by the slop browsers, required by the slopplications and webslops interfacing with the slop machines.

The following is a valid DOS COM executable that prints "HELLO" in the lower right corner of the screen.

You can copy these emoji into a text editor, and save it as EMOJI.COM. it should be 141 bytes.

It will run in DosBox-X, with the following options:
