joke meta (not necessarily april fools related)
"Explaining kills the joke" applies when you're telling the joke, not when someone asks you to explain it. If you have to explain it while telling it, maybe rethink the joke and whether the audience is a good one for it. If someone asks you to explain afterwards, that's when you *should* explain the joke.
Subtoot, tech
If your response to users getting fucked over by horrible software design is "Oh, it's the user's fault," you deserve to have the ability to design and build software taken away from you forever. It is your job as a software developer to ensure you aren't bring harm upon your users, and if you think they should have to protect themselves from *your* shitty software design, you should never be allowed to build software in the first place.
Alternatively, if you want to play with the spelling a bit:
Solvent
Of
Hydrophobic
Particles

@quirk Don't have anyone else to use the computer of. rn, I'm experimenting with hiding VM status. I've found some stuff on hiding from programs that they're running in VMWare, so we'll see if that pans out.

@quirk Not an option. It's specifically designed to reject running in a virtual machine.

Oh, goodie goodie. I'm *required* to use LockDown Browser to take quizzes for my chem class. Now, this would be bad enough on its own (it's a horribly invasive and perfectly useless piece of software), but I can't even install the damn thing! No matter how many times I try redownloading, I always get the same error. And this is before the issues I've heard others have had with getting it to work under Wine. If anyone has suggestions, let me know before midnight, would ya?
Meta about Aprilfools Jokes
Hey federation folks, it's been a rough year and it's only April. Some levity is just what we need and is encouraged! 🤡
Some things to keep in mind:
*Tag jokes so it's clear it's a joke, sarcasm does not translate well online. A punchline is not worth punching down. #AprilFools #Joke
*Please be sensitive about the content of your joke, not everyone is able to laugh in the face of adversity
*When in doubt #BeKind
-Thank you
emoji ramblings
My one pet peeve with emoji is that there's no good replacement for :P. Like, I use :P as a, like, ugh emoticon, but there's no "ugh" tongue sticky outy emoji. All the tongue sticky outy emoji are, like, cheeky tongue sticky outy, not ugh tongue sticky outy.
Compounding my frustration is the fact that discord on the desktop autocorrects :P to 😛 (or used to, anyways).
Also compounding my frustration is that apparently some emoji sets do have a proper :P.
:P
So, yeah. Look forward to all that if I ever get around to finishing my website. Maybe that's something I should work on while stuck at home...
Finally, La Loba Luchanda, a lupine luchadora I designed as a kinda rival for The Vulpine Nightmare. Her description's ending?
"You'll need to be tough and strong if you hope to avoid getting mauled by la loba."
There's also The Emerald Blaze, my headmate Jade's character. Here's the end of her description:
"If you can wear her down, she may stay down, but you'll need to be quick to do so and be tough enough to withstand the blaze."
So, The Vulpine Nightmare is my main character, and I apparently really had fun writing her little description. Here's how that ends:
"Overall, if you've got the speed to beat her to the punch, she might be an easy opponent, but that's a big if, and if you don't, you'll see why they call her the **nightmare**."
So, you may remember me talking about my little tabletop game Headlock a couple times before. Perhaps you've even looked at the current rules. Well, a while back, I started writing a v2 for a website I hope to eventually finish putting together. I just went and read through those and, well, let's just say I went and had some fun describing my characters. What will follow are the absolute highlights* of those (three) descriptions.
*The ends, basically.
acnh, question
@wolfpede@snouts.online I've not played ACNH, but if it's anything like the rest of the games, it takes time. iirc, it takes at least 3 days for trees to grow, but I've not done any tree planting in a while, so I'm not sure exactly how long it takes. But just give it a few days. It takes a good bit for trees to grow
