i am once again missing the abstract skeuomorphism computers used to have. so tired of flat design

I've made some updates to my last blog post:
aurav.neocities.org/blog_posts

I've added a disclaimer at the start to the effect of "I'm a USian, please research for your own country." And I've added a bit on asinine eligibility requirments (you can't give blood if you're a guy who's had sex with another guy) and how it's fine to say "fuck it, they don't deserve my blood then." I still think you should give if you can, but this and similar """requirements""" are fucking ridiculous.

my medium-spicy take is that olympic fencing has gotten so up its own ass as to be impossible to take seriously, almost exclusively because right-of-way priority rules are so asinine that you are incentivized to just run in and impale yourself as long as you get a double-touch

@pinkvampire Basically, the need for blood products combined with the fact some of the eligibility requirements are asinine is something I'd consider reason enough to lie, but if you'd rather not do so, I can absolutely respect that. After all, it's easy for me to say "consider lying" when I'm lucky enough to not have to.

@pinkvampire ...I, ofc, can't say without knowing more, but whatever the case, I did say "if you're able," and I would consider a local organisation that has unnecessarily strict requirements a perfectly valid reason to not, much less actual reasons to not give blood (bloodborne STDs or anemia, among others). The one thing I list as something to lie about even is just a suggestion. A "consider it," not a "you should do this thing."

@pinkvampire So, I don't know enough to speak to the specifics of your situation, but I only gave one thing to even consider lying about. If there are "at least 2 reasons" you can't give, either we're counting things differently, your local organisation(s) have requirements that mine don't (which, tbf, I should have had a disclaimer at the top of "my experience is with the US, ymmv"), or there might be reasons you can't give blood...

New blog post! It's a follow-up of sorts as to what I was saying yesterday about how you should absolutely be giving blood and registered to donate marrow and organs. I talk about what they entail, how they work, and try to hit a few common concerns. Give it a read and let me know if you've got any further concerns I could maybe help address.

And, finally, please register as an organ donor. In some countries, you might be by default, but a lot of countries require you to opt-in. Go check and register if you need to!

While I'm going on about this stuff, have you considered becoming a marrow donor? Marrow is also valuable for life and you don't have to be dead to donate. It's a bit more intense than blood donation (much more for proper marrow rather than peripheral stem cells), but you only give once a match is found. Definitely consider it if you haven't before.

A quick PSA:
If you're able to do so, please give blood! Blood supplies are generally lower than demand for blood products, so giving blood can very much save a life. So, please, check the eligibility requirements for your locale and, if you're eligible, go donate! Whole blood, red blood cells, platelets, or plasma, all are useful!

You should be pround of having made it so far as a nonbinary person. Many people out there are determined to make life as hard as possible for us, and you've survived despite it.

Keep growing stronger and more fearsome everyday. Be a thistle in their garden and bear in their backyard.
