@aran English speakers do seem to take Kunrei-shiki particularly hard, don't they? The assumption that romanization might have goals other than the convenience of mid-Atlantic English speakers doesn't spontaneously occur, so anything that doesn't serve those goals is seen as bizarre and counterproductive. (People seem to particularly hate learning that Kunrei-shiki seems to more closely match the emic view of Japanese...)
@misty @sarahssowertty @gosokkyu they do have the guy/team that ported Rainbow Cotton and just wrapped X-Out ... β
@gosokkyu yeah I saw what he said and his attempts to walk it back & I'm not happy about it but I don't see him as a committed red hat fascist as much as a non American with laser focus on his pet tech/privacy issues who ran his mouth in a context he didn't understand. still beats google donating millions & their CEO lining up at the inauguration. but yknow if there are any half decent services run by people who don't suck i'd love to hear it
OH but they do have a mail-only paid plan which was completely hidden away... it's much cheaper than the "unlimited" plan and still gets you 1 custom domain.. so i COULD get that and not bother with drive
Famiclones all look the same more or less, they said. If you saw one, you've seen them all, they said...
Well, that was before I accidently saw this beast of a clone with a built-in b/w TV: The Sonye 986 II. It's not mine and I know nothing about it.

i SUPPOSE i could justify the proton cost if i, like, ditched dropbox for proton drive (is that any good?) and eventually migrated my personal email to a proton one as well. hmm
considering moving away from gmail for my email & i was thinking about using my 12bit club domain; i don't want to self host though. just want a service i can use a custom domain with. anyone have any recommendations? i was looking at proton but it's only supported on their paid plan & that seems kinda expensive for an email address i would only use for "taizou stuff" which i don't use email THAT much for yknow
Remember the old BBC computers? Dr Sophie Wilson, one half of the duo that designed the BBC Microcomputer, is a trans women. As part of this work, she developed ARM microprocessors, without which we wouldn't have laptops, iPads, mobile phones, smart watches, etc etc.

If your criticism of "big tech" is merely a result of the unhappiness about the fact that Meta, Google and Microsoft aren't EU-corporations you are missing the point.
There is nothing that indicates that SAP or Deutsche Telekom would hesitate a second at the chance of becoming the equally violent and exploitive forces.
The solution to Big Tech isn't EU Big Tech. It's de-commercialisation and democratization of tech.
@tabor62gb if you have some kind of prying tool you might be able to get it open by sticking it in the join near where the tabs are and levering it open. basically unclipping it like a Famicom cart instead of sliding it down. It is tricky though
