question about video game level editors

@Efi @catoutofbed@octodon.social @Draekos this is exactly what I want, except... I don't have any money...

@catoutofbed@octodon.social blender is harder to use for desigining interior spaces, though (in my experience)

question about video game level editors

@catoutofbed@octodon.social yes! just let me mess around with geometry!

question about video game level editors

looks like I'm going to have to *literally make my own program*

question about video game level editors

@Efi @Draekos I feel like I've miscommunicated my desire - it's less that I want to make levels, and more that I want to make levels *in hammer* (or some very similar tool)

@noelle I... would rather use terms that denote gender identity, becuase attraction isn't directly correlated to what's in someone's pants

@catoutofbed@octodon.social what kind of lights are you using?

question about video game level editors

@Draekos yes, I'm specifically looking for the map editor, not the engine

I don't care about what engine the editor is attached to

@catoutofbed@octodon.social oh I used to know the answer to this...

OH!

it might be the lightmap resolution of your textures?

@catoutofbed@octodon.social they added that around Left 4 Dead 1, I believe?

question about video game level editors

@Draekos it's not *just* level editing tools I'm looking for

I'm looking for stuff that is like Hammer

question about video game level editors

hey, are there any tools like Source Engine's hammer that are:

* available on linux
* don't require me to purchase a game first?

I'm getting really nostalgic for the level design stuff I used to do for portal and half life 2, and I want to mess around again, but don't have windows
