Did you know that there are Christmas lights in the deep ocean? There are! They're called lanternfish!

Despite the image conjured by the name, lanternfish and anglerfish are largely unrelated - they're both bony fishes and that's it. Where anglerfish dangle a light in front of them, lanternfish (all members of Myctophidae) are moderate-to-deep-sea fish that have photophoric cells throughout their bodies that they flash for communication throughout their school.
