@vxo me, browsing the web from the uk, having not seen a website without a cookie prompt for years: "first time?"

The only common task I can't do in Windows 98SE is browse the modern Web (not even with Retrozilla).

The only common task I can't do in FreeDOS (updated to 1.4 just 3 months ago) is browse the modern Web.

Why do I get the feeling this is a failing of the modern Web?

Wonderful news: The #StarTrek "Deep Space Nine" documentary "What We Left Behind" is now available for free on YouTube!

This is the first time European fans can watch it legally (outside of the few public screenings that happened back in 2018 when the movie was released).

there's an entire chapter on the C64 demoscene (of which the author was a participant) but honestly, my favorite demo? no, not the ones with mind-boggling warping effects or whatever. no. my favorite is the one below, with the PETSCII-animated cats 🐈

local newspaper has some CSS to make the text really small if you're not logged in and/or you've hit your article limit. but it doesn't cover <a> tags apparently, so articles with links make interesting erasure poetry

@esm it has a gump dependency. you have to downgrade twiffle to use it. it literally just needs a ringnop install. you can run it if you have ropble. it requires jonkdom. your borp is out of date. you need to upgrade borp. upgrade to borp now. upgrade to borp now.

italo disco morphing into nrg through to eurobeat (with many of the same composers and producers either continuing to work under the same artistic aliases or reinventing themselves with new ones over the course of like two or three decades) is probably one of my favourite music history things

@arielmt my nag was rather that it's required for there to be a separate max232 (or otherwise rs232 transciever) for signal level conversion but i've been educated on why a design with both chips separate is better

Looking for investors on my brand new fast food chain idea, hot balls, like hot dogs, but it's a bunch of meat balls in a long bun. I need £150,000 to make this a reality. Invest now abd a slice of this lucrative hot balls empire can be youes

my lame claim to fame is that i was on the homestarrunner.com fanstuff of the week once but it's credited to a deadname so i don't want to show anybody

is there a single chip solution usb->serial i've missed that does true RS232 -12 +12 vdc signaling or are you still expected to always need to couple an ftdi with a max232 to this day
