Welp. I've been using GitLab for over a decade and have been pretty happy with it. Deployed and maintained several instances, some personal, some for small hobby orgs, some for work.
But it looks like it is time to ditch GitLab for good:

@Okesska links are welcome!!
seems like i've been stuck on seafile 9 since who knows when and now they're up to version 14 and docker is a requirement. looks like upgrading / migrating will be a pain and not worth it.
nextcloud looks to do everything i want (i remember only giving up on it in favour of seafile becaue of how slow it ran on my 4th gen i5 server a decade ago) but i'm not keen on how bloated and ai-happy it looks today.
what other self-hosted file/docs cloud are people using today?

Like the rest of the World Wide Web, they didn't go away. We did.
We got lured away from the World Wide Web into the shiny and green walled gardens. Now we forgot what's beyond that wall, and we're only just noticing that the garden's flowers are wilted and its grass is long since dead.
The World Wide Web is still there, only diminished by our absence and invisible behind the walls of the worst tech corporations selling us a utopia that isn't.
as someone who considers byteself to be a digital creature whose home is the internet this makes me really sad
