someone out there is using webgbcam to make delightful little gifs of train motion and i'll count that towards my positive impact in the world

php looking at javascript: look at what they need to mimic a fraction of our power

i love how the small web movement has fractured into absolutely no client side anything (gopher, gemini) and absolutely client side maximalism you need javascript to view it (zonelets)

In 2016 my aunt passed away from cancer. In 2020 I restored the #typewriter she left for me as a heirloom which I'd never seen fully functioning growing up. Shortly afterwards my mother's home was broken into and the typewriter stolen. Please help me find a replacement!

if you get the cast iron pan. its really good because you dont have to clean it. in fact, you can't. you have to eat the dirt. if you clean it, you'll die, so you have to just eat the dirt i'm afraid

A reminder that the deadline for illegal content risk assessments under the UK's #OnlineSafetyAct is 16 March, so just a couple of weeks away.

Ofcom has some tools, and I've been documenting what I can at onlinesafetyact.co.uk/, including some template/sample assessments, in the hope that they are helpful. All licensed under CC BY-SA 4.0.

Question: is geoblocking the UK an acceptable alternative?

Ofcom: we want UK citizens to enjoy access to a wide range of online services. We do not want people to block the UK market. If a service feels that the best way to comply is to geoblock the UK, that is sufficient to meet the regulations.

the future of the internet in the UK... geoblocks inbound.

as of this Sunday, I will no longer run web communities, a few of the sites will have new owners who are willing to engage and try to navigate the risks, but most will just shut down, some have moved to other platforms like Discord.

considering moving away from gmail for my email & i was thinking about using my 12bit club domain; i don't want to self host though. just want a service i can use a custom domain with. anyone have any recommendations? i was looking at proton but it's only supported on their paid plan & that seems kinda expensive for an email address i would only use for "taizou stuff" which i don't use email THAT much for yknow
