@typhlosion One does not merely "make things" in a vacuum but as part of a community whose practices are (somewhat unfortunately) rather a matter of mob rule at the moment. There is still value in trying to nudge that community away from broken tools that end up hurting a lot of people because they feel compelled to use them because they happen to be the modish thing.

@yeenbat *considers* I would say minute examination of my own behavior when I am having focus difficulties does, in fact, bear this out. My engagement with a task is either non-existent or complete, generally. If I am emotionally involved in what I am doing, I can do it for hours; if I am detached (or worse), then my brain starts looking immediately for something more satisfying.

@boots I'm not sure whether this list is mean to include only games but I can think of multiple examples from other media. Even in games it's leaving out Leela from "Marathon", Hayden's first AI (Turing's predecessor) from "Read Only Memories"...there must be some others. Still, I appreciate the point: robots and AIs heavily skew male (and white male at that, going by who gets cast to voice AIs)
