Oh, right, new school year. University students: the secret to success is GO THE FUCK TO BED, GO THE FUCK TO CLASS, DO YOUR FUCKING HOMEWORK and to get HELP AND SUPPORT from people who want you to succeed if you find yourself neglecting any of these, and there are many more such people than you may think!
LTAS episode 2 is out! this week we're watching Once, the 2007 oscar-winning romantic musical.
AI, LibreOffice, hope
In a rapidly AI slopifying world, there is hope after all.
The Document Foundation, makers of LibreOffice, the most frequently recommended free alternative to Microsoft Office, listed its *lack* of AI integration as a product feature in the newest version: https://blog.documentfoundation.org/blog/2026/08/26/libreoffice-26-8/
It broke their previous download record for the first week post-release: https://blog.documentfoundation.org/blog/2026/09/02/one-week-of-libreoffice-26-8-the-stats/
How I found out: https://manualdousuario.net/en/libreoffice-download-record-no-ai/
Harvesting data from copy/paste clipboards for 3rd party use, seems to be a trend in surveillance adtech for apps too?

I noticed today that an update to the #Linux #Zoom client has made it start proactively reading _everything_ written to the X11 clipboard.
If you keep interesting secrets in your clipboard – particularly, if a password manager uses it as a means of getting the password to where it needs to be – this might be a thing you need to know about!

I once led an online banking team responsible roughly 3.5 million customers. Just three of those customers used WebTV to do their banking: WebTV was less than one ten-thousandth of one percent of their customer base.
And yet... I personally fixed a WebTV bug, because both the bank's product manager and I believed that everyone should be able to access their bank online regardless of what technology they needed or wanted to use to do so.
It’s sad that this is a story and not how it always goes.
