Forgot to share this last night; Renamon (me) practicing bass guitar!

@LightTheUnicorn It's going pretty well! I've been able to get it running really smooth, and the games I want to play are working better than in LMDE ^^

All settled into Gentoo now, running XFCE4 ^.^

Okay managed to find an applicable service manual and that's given the item code EC24B50D0, which doesn't come up with anything in a search but it has confirmed what I know.

The question now is what to get as a replacement. How are "detents" measured on rotary encoders?

It looks like it's an Alps 624G

Follow up, does anybody recognise this rotary encoder and where I can get a replacement or equivalent?

@ayke It's an AKAI CD3000XL sampler, made in the 90s, so it's going pretty well considering that only one button and this encoder are faulty. :)

@Jencen This is bigger than I was expecting! The base is about the size of a pound coin.

Electronics peeps; my sampler has an issue where the rotary encoder drops inputs, registers multiple for single turns, or registers inputs in the opposite direction. Does the encoder need replacing?

@dh I ended up having problems with LMDE after a few hours yesterday so today I went back to Gentoo and I've done it better now. Up and running with Xfce4 and everything is good. :)

Ended up going with LMDE as I got a bit frustrated during install. x)

@dh Honestly I've just needed an excuse to put in the work to switch; since having a BSOD a few weeks ago Windows fails to boot on the first attempt and has to be rebooted before it will start fully! x)

@tryst Yarp but I always end up really vibing with it; the way it works sort of slots right into my way of thinking.

I've got LMDE on backup just in case.

Well that's the end of an era; the last day using Windows on my desktop. When I wake up I'm installing Gentoo on it.
