hi welcome to mastodon please collar me

Welcome, new people, to MASTODON!

Here's your complimentary fursuit, copy of the Communist Manifesto, pineapple, bag of oats, pair of jorts, and the rest of the memes that have popped up and I've forgotten about

Around here emoji are emojos, tweets are toots (unless they're called something else), retweets are boosts (likewise), and twitter is birdsite

Please feel free to visit the petting zoo, we have robosquirbuns, catfoxes, dragons, kobolds, sharks, and all manner of other creatures to pet

Howdy! Name's Gen. Exploring this here Mastodon thingy. Seems neat! I turn the Magic the Gathering story into an audio drama, so you'll probably mostly see that and some other game stuff here. voiceofallmtg.com/
Pleasure to meet you!

every time it rains either my power or my internet go out until the next morning, ugh

so the counterfeit IC almost worked out...

i got r, g and sync fine but no b

and i didn't socket it either, ugh

so i'm getting red, green and sync alright from the counterfeit IC, but no blue

blergh

and this was after i tried it the first time and i was seemed to be getting RGB fine, which means the counterfeit IC worked, so yay! but then i tried to hook up the composite video out as sync and accidentally shorted the board on a piece of scrap on my desk

Show thread

maaaan, this sucks

i blew a 1uH inductor on the 5v input

i don't have any to replace it with

looks like this project has come to an abrupt halt unless i can salvage another one from anything else in my stuff

Show thread

oops i accidentally blew up the 7805 in my master system

the way china usually counterfeits these ICs is picking any one with the same pin count (in the case of the CXA1145, DIP-28), sometimes desoldered from a working system, filing away the original markings and etching the counterfeit IC number onto it. The chips I have are very obviously fakes, but since the pinouts seem more or less ok (R G and B pins all have the same resistance values, for example, and not a different random pinout) it might be pin-compatible.

Show thread

so the counterfeit chip seems to have some sort of expected separation from expected vcc and ground pins (indicating resistance and/or logic instead of a dead short) so it should be safe to plug in, and there's an equal resistance between ground and each of the R G B inputs and outputs, meaning they should have the same sort of circuitry between them

looks like the counterfeit ICs might be usable after all... gonna solder it into the master system now

if you MUST be discoursey, use CWs

if you attack someone, you will be suspended

Show thread

i'm tired of discourse i just want to make computer fairies a nice and supportive place to nice people

so if anyone keeps trying to disrupt that, i'll suspend them

do good people get blocked when an instance with a lot of shitty people on it gets blocked/silenced?

probably?

does the benefit outweigh that though?

hell fucking yes.

should i just suspend niu.moe rather than silence

they feel so toxic over there
