Do you remember SUN JDS (Java Desktop System)? It was a beautifully modified version of GNOME 2. Even a Live CD based on Morphix was available.
Sadly, the internet (even archive.org) has forgotten mostly everything about it. If you still have a copy of the JDS Live CD, please contact me, and I am going to build an IceWM theme based on the design.

@esselfortium Listening to that ASAP, and also wishlisted to remind myself to give your catalog some attention next time I'm buying stuff on Bandcamp.
@esselfortium if it's anything like PC Love Letter, my mom will be quite happy I think

This is an Xbox 360. No, really. An ad-hoc dev kit version based around PowerMac G5s.
A photo from a disgruntled Xbox dev who was annoyed that even as late as May of 2005, they still didn't have any actual proper 360s to work with.
Second Reality by Future Crew is now 30 years old. It was released at the second Assembly party in Finland (which about 1500 people attended) and it became the definite #DOS demo of its day, putting the PC firmly on the #demoscene map! The people behind it went on to found 3dMark, Bugbear and Remedy.
New blog post! I wrote about Journey to the Source, a CD-ROM travelogue that follows a team of people as they go 6,300 kilometres down the Yangtze to find its source. It's a *really* interesting disc, as much about the people who live all along that river and their lives as it is about making that discovery. So many things have changed there in the years since, so I loved getting an impression of daily life that's long gone.

A clip of a 1993 CES promo reel from that most magnificent of video game owls, Psygnosis.
Very cool to see Psygnosis here moving in all directions as the 32-bit era dawns, including their big ambitions for Scavenger-4 and hitting it big in Japan - later retooled into Novastorm.

@TonicBH dang, duke 3d in high res, gettin' ritzy up in here π
@bloodwrites With the extra benefit that we no longer have to worry about making sure to post in the correct subforum. π
People who complain about the different rules on different #fediverse servers never navigated the Internet when forums were the thing.
It was the norm to read the damn rules and lurk for a while to get your head around the culture of the place.
Yes, I'm old. Perhaps that's why fedi is majority #GenX. We've done this kind of thing before and it's not that big of a deal.
@aaronsgiles And Microsoft axed Windows Startups since 10, which has somewhat depressed me ever since. Computers don't make enough cool sounds anymore.
This, from the person who was always jealous of all those wonderful crispy Apple Platinum noises that shipped with Mac OS 9.
@thejpster I guess so, I'm honestly more surprised nobody's called me out for getting lazy about the RAM. π
