i wish this resulted in a working binary, but there is apparently a 20 year old known issue that prevents this from compiling under FreeBSD
Something I occasionally think about, and then proceed to be horrified to my core, is this:
A Raspberry Pi 4 *vastly* outperforms an Amiga 4000. Or a Symbolics XL1200. Or an SGI Octane. A typical microSD card is *much* faster than a Seagate Cheetah Ultra320 SCSI HDD you might have found in a high-end Unix workstation back in the day.
But the Pi 4 is barely able to run modern-day office software or browse the mainstream web. The microSD card is mostly considered a slow piece of junk (which it very likely is, though for other reasons than its performance).
What the fuck are we even doing here?
i think i have multiple friends who look exactly like this guy (and may have been one of them at some point myself)
So (cough) remember how I said I needed to quit taking in more Golfshrine inventory? I packed up the shelf contents into boxes? ...That just got a bit more complicated, because I somehow still took in more inventory. Acquisitions and news in this month's update:

Kicking off a new series over at CD-ROM Journal: covering Daiso’s ¥100 ultrabudget game series. Just how much game can you even get for ¥100? You’d be surprised! There are some really interesting stuff in here - for less than a dollar a game, it feels like they couldn’t afford to be picky. https://cdrom.ca/games/the-game-series/2026/10/01/daiso-the-game-series-part-1.html
@joe Argh, I can't find the size (11px maybe?), but I've been using Departure Mono for a few weeks.
The website is...intense, fyi.
New on the Secret Area: It's Austin Powers Operation: Trivia.
Somebody at Sierra thought there should be a trivia game based on the titular spy film parody series. It works about as well as you'd expect.

I don't know what is more weird: that there are 144 bytes of writable Flash in each of my toothbrush heads, or that my phone can read them, or that my phone can't write into them because the toothbrush head is password-protected and does toothbrush-side cryptography checks. DRM in your toothbrushes is more likely than you think!
For now the toothbrush allows me to use heads that are "expired" or "inauthentic", but it is not unthinkable that one day there will be a toothbrush head with a larger Flash and a payload with a firmware update for the brush that will lock down the toothbrush.
