In the early 1990s, while working in an Amsterdam animation studio, I co-created one of the first fully computer-animated TV series in the Netherlands, called Mannetje & Mannetje.
We used a mix of drawn elements and digitized photos in DPaint on Amigas. We made one 5-minute episode a week, while in the evenings, sometimes nights, I worked on the Hoi Amiga game. 😅
I'm in the process of uploading a range of episodes to my Archive. Here's a link to the first episode:
Can I ask a favour from someone with a fully working Mac LC and a scope? The original model, not LC II of newer. I need to know the voltage of logic 1 on the address bus. To do what, with the Mac off:
1. Plug scope ground to the PDS pin in the middle row closest to internal SCSI port;
2. In the same row, advance two pins and connect scope probe. See image. This will probe A17.
3. Power on.
You will see the signal changing. I need to know the voltage when signal is high. #retroApple

i suppose the original Hitman in itself wasn't that much less weird, because the metaplot is about 47 tracking down all of the sources of his genetic code (the aforementioned super-criminals) to kill them, and one of them is basically just Tony Montana from Scarface in a really long and annoying jungle level
Happy 25th anniversary, Windows XP!

we can’t walk past the Jazz apples in Tesco without one of us going “ooof! right in the jazz apples!” in a bad 1920s gangster accent

random thought:
you should have forums for your hobby / subculture / open source thing / etc., that are not discord, and that are openly accessible in HTML online. you should try to make those appear on google and be like the place to discuss the thing, if that's at all doable.
many online subcultures used to have a politeness norm of "don't ask questions without first googling it". this rule is obsolete. googling it doesn't work anymore. stackexchange is dead. it is very difficult already to find reliable information. you need to make it as easy and inviting as possible for curious people and newcomers to get used to asking human beings about the thing. this means tolerating common questions rather than replying to them like "read the FAQ/TFM/search the forum" etc.
in fact, actively establish spaces specifically meant for people who are too intimidated to ask questions. in a reddit-type forum, do "weekly quick q&a thread—all questions welcome" kinda thing (it's less intimidating to post a brief comment than making a question post). do "weekly casual chat thread" and "beginner's corner" and "off-topic fridays" and stuff like that, too.
and on the converse, actively discourage people from posting chatbot answers, through both forum rules and fostering forum culture. don't be aggressive about it but also don't be lenient.
so i have a broken chumby classic (ironforge 1.8: http://files.blueocty.com/hdwedocs/IRONFORGE_MX21_V1_8_FINAL.pdf ). in some sort of fashion, there was a short in a power rail somewhere (i suspect DC in and ground, but i'm not sure if so, or if that was indeed the root cause) which blew a diode and some buck regulators. i have now replaced all those parts and checked that all voltages (5v, 3v3, 1v8) are correct and the unit does power on however never functions beyond a white screen
spitballing appreciated
perhaps i have not introduced this part of the net to PonderSlab; this is a Thinkpad T61 from around 2006. it's got a Core 2 Duo, 4 GB RAM, a 250 GB SSD that I added myself, and it's currently running FreeBSD 15.1 because I got bored.
It's more usable than I expected it to be in this setup; there's some things I have not figured out yet, but it seems comfortable with LXQt.
