We're trying something new: in January we're hosting a game jam!

It's about Basic, the programming language. We ask people to make a game in Basic, any version will do. GW-Basic, QuickBasic, whatever you like.

The only other requirement is that your game runs on DOS, because that's our whole thing!

The jam runs for the whole of January 2027. And in February we'll play all the entries with the club and talk about them in a podcast!

I am (relatively) at ease, this morning. Even though I woke up late and my feet are cold.

sam altman can have all 32 gigabytes of my RAM for precisely $5,592.77, which is precisely the amount of money it would take to pay off my student loans in one single payment.

...plus another hundred for a good night out on the town.

i say this because i know he'll never see it, and even if he does, he'll never make good on it. asshole.

almost feeling like i ought to leave the place where that happened, anyway, because while it's not as elitist as some of the fighting and shmup circles i keep getting glimpses of, it recently feels like i am just not getting anything of value from it, as the most active people in there are the ones whose attitudes just do not mesh well with mine.

and, yeah, i tend to not want to talk because things like the above have happened to me, too.

anybody can engage with a game in whatever levels and angles they want. there is no wrong way. if you do this, i consider you just as valid.

i will continue to champion these ideals. ... from a comfortable distance away.

another discussion begins in regards to "if you beat the game by cheating, you didn't beat the game." i enter the discussion by saying there's plenty of ways to engage with a game and a lot of the people who do that probably don't want to talk because they feel their POV is not valid.

someone else comes in; admits they only finished Fire Emblem in Casual mode. they then get talked down to, and told that they "didn't really play Fire Emblem."

... why does being vindicated have to feel so bad?

In the early 1990s, while working in an Amsterdam animation studio, I co-created one of the first fully computer-animated TV series in the Netherlands, called Mannetje & Mannetje.

We used a mix of drawn elements and digitized photos in DPaint on Amigas. We made one 5-minute episode a week, while in the evenings, sometimes nights, I worked on the Hoi Amiga game. πŸ˜…

I'm in the process of uploading a range of episodes to my Archive. Here's a link to the first episode:

Can I ask a favour from someone with a fully working Mac LC and a scope? The original model, not LC II of newer. I need to know the voltage of logic 1 on the address bus. To do what, with the Mac off:

1. Plug scope ground to the PDS pin in the middle row closest to internal SCSI port;
2. In the same row, advance two pins and connect scope probe. See image. This will probe A17.
3. Power on.

You will see the signal changing. I need to know the voltage when signal is high. #retroApple

i suppose the original Hitman in itself wasn't that much less weird, because the metaplot is about 47 tracking down all of the sources of his genetic code (the aforementioned super-criminals) to kill them, and one of them is basically just Tony Montana from Scarface in a really long and annoying jungle level

good morning. i dreamed that I'd decided to replay Hitman: Codename 47. i vaguely remembered Hitman being about a secret society of super-criminals, but i did not remember that one of them summoned humanoid flies or that one of them was a life-sized papier-mache dinosaur.
