Also, to save yourself from nasty surprises, verify the hostname of the system you're on when you start a screen/tmux session. This tip doesn't work if you do it on your local machine instead of the remote.

Good morning, folks. Have a sysadmin tip:

When you ssh to a remote system, make it a habit to run either `screen` or `tmux` first. Always. Even for just a quick little command.

That way, when your crap ISP monopoly drops your connection for no reason whatsoever, your remote command won't be SIGHUP'd, & you can resume with `screen -r` or `tmux attach` when they decide your connection can be restored.

Apple rant: handheld computers edition

Did you know Safari on iPhone won't load a page over HTTP if even 1 subdomain of that site is HTTPS?

It gets better!

1. Instead of showing a message, it loads a completely different page & shows that to the user, leaving the user baffled.

2. It hits all the proper URLs anyway, making a liar out of the user to the website operators.

I'd have blamed the user, too, if I didn't watch it live from both ends.

The First Law of Robotics is not even available as an optional feature by most self-driving car manufacturers. This is perfectly acceptable & even unavoidable in a country where your car has more rights than you have.

The Editor war is stupid. Edit your text files with the text editor that's right for *you,* and don't worry about the editor anyone else uses.

More importantly, Google is more uselessly irrelevant as a search engine with each passing day. It will never be as useful or relevant as it was 20 years ago.

Consider searching with alternatives, such as DuckDuckGo.com. It's also one of the defaults available in every browser but Edge.
