explaining an art school joke

"big for watercolor" is a reference to the fact that most illustrators have a different idea of what a physically "big" art piece is than fine artists do, usually because of what medium(s) they work in

illustration majors: wow I JUST finished an 18x24 (inches) mixed media acrylic painting! it took a whole MONTH!

fine artist majors: (chuckling) I couldn't even FIT my last painting into my friends (pickup) TRUCK, I had a rent a Uhaul

abstract artist struggles 2019

..., I think it was supposed to be a study on painting fire? I remember having a classmate that was working on this HUGE (for watercolor) piece of a wildfire and I was pretty inspired by it... :blobthinking:

abstract artist struggles 2019

found a really old 4x6 watercolor painting and I can't remember for the life of me which direction is supposed to be UP, let alone what it was supposed to be ABOUT...

today's a "singing (the 00's pop hit) 'Telephone' for the entire 30 min drive back from the real estate office" kinda day

last retoot | selfcare

I was talking to an offline friend about how my Father used to say,

"Repetition is the key to learning!"

instead of,

"Practice makes perfect"

because I'd argue every time (as a kid btw) that

"perfection wasn't a real thing we could actually achieve?"

so friend chimes in and says his parents only said something like,

"perfect practice makes perfect skills"

Implying there's a wrong way to learn things and I'm pretty sure that's how you make a grade-A anxiety mess

Slow, imperfect progress is better than none at all.

on birdsite they're sharing heights now and...idk what y'all are expectin', but I'm about 5'4 (162~cm) which according to the internet is the same height as Hinata from Haikyuu!! and Tracer from Overwatch 😅

anime | lucky star

I finally watched all 24 episodes of lucky star in one sitting last week because my wi-fi was down and...

...I def ship Kagami and Konata now, like fucking 10 years AFTER I was SUPER obsessed with this show. It's not a hardcore ship, but I think the scenes with just the two of them talking are much cuter now

I find myself relating more with Kagami as I get older, especially her end of the episode rants??? 🤣 she also does her own thing while actively being a part of the group

manga | MHA

(looking at her manga pics) oh NO SHE'S TOO COOL!!!! 💦
I don't even care that she apparently has pink skin(?), the way her dragon form looks like the Blue-eyes-white dragon from YGO is the COOLEST thing to happen in MHA

she and her form are known as "dragoon" and like 😍 💓 SHE'S SO COOL!!!!

anime/manga | MHA | kinda personal

me, deep in the wikis looking up weird trivia and trying to avoid late manga spoilers: I wonder who shares my birthday :blobthinkingcool:

okay, so no one does EXACTLY, but my birthday is right in between Power Loader and...a Ryuko Tatsuma?

I def can see myself as the slouched over tech nerd, but who is this Ryuko?

(click click)

OH SNAP!!! SHE'S LITERALLY THE COOLEST CHARACTER TO ALMOST SHARE MY BIRTHDAY!!!

DRAGON-HERO!!!!

DRagon...girl...! my birthday!!

this less of a specific artist & more of a tragically unheard of digital watercolor program called Expresii (expresii.com)

it was originally developed for calligraphy, over the years it's been exanded to be just the BEST digital watercolor app/program there currently is on the market

cons are: it's Windows only, and it because it was made in Japanese first, the translated English menu might be confusing

the pros? endless!! AND IT'S GOSH DARN BEAUTIFUL!!!

anime fandom | lol

me, back in the early 00's: yes! I know who Sakura is, she's from Naruto and...

me, now: oMFG WHICH SAKURA?!?! THERE'S 80 OF THEM :blobhyperthink:

fanfic | fandom

I usually browse fanfic by tags, so I often come across fics that look like good reads, but I can't remember for the life of me who's who because it's such a rarepair

...and that's why I have several fandom's wiki character pages favorited on my browser, even though I'm familiar/caught up with all of them

420 | thinking out loud

[serious thinking face] wait...so...

Spencer from iCarly is a goofy guy who attended law school (1 day) and then dropped out to make art

Pheonix from Ace Attorney is a goofy guy who attended art school (I've played 1 AA game idk how long) to become a lawyer

...am I onto something here? :bunthink:

starting off with Heikala on insta instagram.com/heikala/

I love her work because most of her paintings have process videos (hint: you can watch these and learn more about the layering technique watercolor is famous for!) with the most AMAZING piano compositions 💓 (the pianist is always credited on her posts, Ryancampus.com )

her slice-of-fantasy illustrations make me swoon with feels

July has been World Watercolor month and I feel like I haven't done a great job at exposing the medium to more people online

so I'm gonna start a thread here with some of my favorite watercolor artists (that aren't me)

as the heatwave hits both america and europe, this is a handy infographic to pass around

people who are elderly, young, or chronically ill are more susceptible to this!

many head meds (SSRIs, etc) make this more likely as well!

heatstroke can also come with confusion and other mental symptoms. if you see someone who is warm to the touch, not sweating, and acting oddly in this heat (especially if in categories of ppl at risk) - please help get them medical attention! heatstroke can kill!

life | anime mentioned | OPM

we had our first big heat wave this weekend, and it was such a pain trying to sleep without an AC, but, then I remembered, this is part of OPM's training!!! I will become Stronger :blobowoevil:
