I just learned that the words short, shirt, and skirt all come from the same origin, and that the short in shortbread is an archaic use of short meaning "easily crumbled"; all of these come from a proto-indo-european root meaning "to cut off a piece"

our housemate plays the radio, and it's currently playing some pop song while I listen to some funk on my headphones. But the drums in the pop song are louder than usual, so I'm getting this weird effect where the piece I'm listening to now has 2 drumlines, arranged in a complex syncopated rhythm and it's really cool
