also, even at these much-faster-than-expected speeds, it's not going to finish downloading for 3 hours, so idk what to do until then

linguistics, capital letters

this is especially frustrating when you realise we only need around 44 letters to represent english phonetically, so we're learning even more glyphs than we would need
to if we switched to a phonetic system!

linguistics, capital letters

I'm anti-capital letters - not in the sense that you shouldn't use them.

But in the sense that they add very little to our current writing system.

We don't have 26 letters in the English alphabet - we have 52, because many capital letters are completely different symbols to their lowercase counterparts:

a → A
d → D
g → G

So we have to learn twice as many symbols, just for names and the first letter of a sentence? Frustrating!

I'm gonna download borderlands 2, because it should run on my computer.

I'm so glad they made a linux version

long, beauty standards

trying to get better at **not** complimenting people on their appearance.

A lot of people struggle with self-image, because it's impossible for everyone to meet everyone's beauty standards.

And I want to still express that I care for them, even if they don't look stunningly beautiful.

Classic Doctor Who

I watched some clips of "Inferno", a 3rd doctor story, and.... hmm.

I thought Inferno was terrible when I last watched it, but these clips are exciting, and interesting - quite a bit more than some of the 2nd doctor eps I've recommended.

I see 3 options:

* inferno is not as bad as I thought, and I was just unncessarily harsh to it
* inferno is bad, and I need to be harsher on the older episodes
* inferno is bad, but the badness is not reflected in the clips

A cool haskell library

There's a library for haskell that allows you to test concurrent programs, and it will tell you:
* if your program deadlocks
* if it causes exceptions because of misused resources
* if it produces a consistent result

it's called "dejafu": hackage.haskell.org/package/de

Definitely true fun fact: "United States" is a mishearing of the original plan: the "Huenited States"! The founding fathers simply wanted all the states to be coloured the same on world maps and nothing more, but after it got misinterpreted they just rolled with it.

group chat troubles

I have this mental thing, where I can't skip messages in a group chat, I have to read every message that was sent while I was gone/asleep.

Which means I either spend multiple hours going through my discord backlog, or I let the servers just sit there, that anxious little white blip next to them, for days and days, until any reasonable semblance of being involved in the community melts away.

The arts

Starting yesterday and finishing today, I drew @softgoat in the rain. :3

Her reaction was wonderful. :D
