nb erasure, a common mistake

@lizardsquid There is a reason I never say "gender is a spectrum".

The reason is simple. Spectrum—to anyone other than the equivocator—is a word that has only one meaning: an ordered, sequential continuum or range.

There is no way to hear the word spectrum and not think of a series of things in a line—in the continuous manner of the real number line.

Attempts to retcon the term to encompass non-assignable genders fail, because the term itself is simply inadequate.

Hey guys what's your PERsona like a human version of yourself mine doesn't have soft fur all over their body and doesn't have a tail and they don't have cute paws and GOSH DAMMIT THIS IS BORING WHATS THE POINT

"dude" is not gender neutral

you don't have to "play guess the gender" if you only take a second to ask the person or read their bio

if you disagree please feel free to go eat your own shoe

Lots of people need lots of different content warnings on posts!
Here are some suggestions on them, not all of them necessarily common:

Selfies and/or eye contact
Food
Gore
Sexual content (some use "lewd" for this, I avoid putting "nsfw" but that's another post)
Public Displays of Affection (pda)
Politics and news (with the places it's relevant in the tag)
Mental health issues
Money

Also, if you make jokes where the content warning is very misleading, put (joke) in the CW!

birdsite discussion

hey is there an alternate user interface for birdsite that has:
* only one column, like default
* no nonsense on the side
* automatically updates the feed, like mastodon does?

it's weird having birdsite in a different window (and different desktop) to computerfairies... I'm so used to pressing gt to switch to birdsite, then gT to switch back

heck I'm back on my "multiple browser windows with dozens of tabs each" thing

except I'm trying to limit tabs this time...

boost this status if you are a lizard, like a lizard, or are using a computer

And "meal" and "meal" come from different roots.

"meal" (n. 1) as in "food, time for eating", is from *me-, "to measure".

"meal" (n. 2) as in "edible ground grain", is from *mele-, "to crush, grind".

nb erasure, a common mistake

if your reaction to the gender binary is to take the male/female binary and turn it into a line from male to female with "agender" in the middle, you... have missed the complexities of how gender actually works...

you need a two dimensional graph at the very least
