@djsundog Dear Sundogistani consulate, the skies of Computerfairia have cleared! We are pleased to inform that we are now in possession of enough solar power to share between both of our nations! computerfairi.es/media/6rTo_PS

@troubleMoney the Acer i use as my main laptop certainly loses points for build quality (the plastic screw holders already broke off from taking it apart one too many times) but i feel like most laptops (within a few years ago, I'm sure newer models keep you out) I've worked on were pretty reasonable to open, they just weren't as standardized as the thinkpad and also made compromises for thinness, which makes sense

@troubleMoney before i got this specific model i just didn't know what was so special about them, other than being solid machines aimed more towards business work

now i'm pretty hooked on it, but take into account i only speak for this specific model, the 2007 x61t, and the earlier IBM forays (butterfly keyboard) look awesome, but i do think they're a bit overhyped in the foss community just because someone wrote a custom bios for it

@softgoat an older laptop i have, a 1996 Toshiba Satellite 420CDT feels like a BOX

and i love it

@softgoat people keep trying to make laptops thinner and i'm like, no!!! give me your thickest slab of plastic

@TrollDecker :(

can you try to explain the situation to excuse yourself?

we're here for you <3

@troubleMoney punctuating a computer session by feeling the static energy on the screen after you turn it off before going to bed

@softgoat even modern (modded!) minecraft runs remarkably playable on this 10 year old model under xubuntu

is this why people get so obsessed with thinkpads??

thinkpad gushing

@tom they seem to work out of the box on xubuntu, dpad maps to arrow keys and enter? but if you use the rotate screen button the RGB subpixel stuff gets out of order so text gets painful to read

thinkpad gushing

also for reference about the tinyness: it's taking like half the whole classroom desk, it feels smol, just like me

you're not allowed to cw only the text and not the image anymore, huh

thinkpad gushing

can i just gush a little bit more about how cute and tiny and chunky this laptop is? i feel a lot more joy simply using it than using my newer i5 laptop

the keys feel super solid and nice to type on and the textured plastic feels so nice against my paws

the onnnnnly thing i'm SLIGHTLY worried about is the hinge, have i been using it so much that it's gotten a little looser or was it always like this and i already forgot? dunno computerfairi.es/media/Qkb6hrx

you might've heard of me ........ i'm one of the Gays
