my dream linux desktop: pixel perfect mac os 9 recreation (no, no gnome themes look anything like os 9 no matter how much they call themselves platinum, they all look off) with modernized hotkeys and a quicksearch function like xfce's start menu has

remember 90s linux distros that had window titles that didn't span the whole window width just the title width? i liked that

i don't want to turn help away

it's just that a lot of suggestions aren't of any actual help

if you have any desire at all to actually hands-on help me make my linux desktop experience more enjoyable please let me know

people who will just link me to a thing and not personally help me set it up need not apply

anyway this is me griping about a thing in my usual frustrated fashion of "if i can't do it it must mean it's impossible and anyone telling me otherwise is lying" because i have bad mental health hi how's your day

plus gnome themes just suck a lot and for some reason absolutely none of them use the gnome color customization on mate

like any theme i throw at it shows the theme's colors but actually changing them is grayed out like what's the point

mate is ok but it's hard to find the programs i want other than memorizing terminal lines

fvwm was nice but crashed too much

xfce has good usability but looks awful

i wish i had the patience and knowledge of linux wms to configure a wm i like but linux is absolutely cryptic

this thinkpad x61t was such a good deal

i found it for $50 on ebay on a gamble since it was untested and it's just absolutely perfect and drawing on it is so nice and the keyboard feels great and and

heck

i'm just really happy whenever i talk about this thinkpad

because it had a whole life before me and now it's in my paws and now i get to use it daily even though it's 11 years old and it's still so good and aaa

now that it's not the 90s anymore can i be the new amiga furry mascot

i'm also so so amazed at how well 11 year old hardware has been working for me as a daily driver laptop

i just wish i had a better battery for it, maybe once i have more money i'll import a new one

it's literally the only bit of this thinkpad that was missing besides the trackpoint when i bought it used

(i got such a lucky deal on this thinkpad im still so happy about that)
