@cypnk Seiko movements might be the easiest option for DIY projects, availability is good, different dials/handsets/etc. are easy to find, and they're relatively inexpensive
The NH35A movement for example is pretty damn good and you can get it for under $40
If you want to go upscale though you can find Sellita and ETA movements without too much trouble
@cypnk So far CSACs have been a bit on the large side for watches, someone did make one though; https://www.hodinkee.com/articles/introducing-the-bathys-cesium-133-atomic-clock-watch
And yeah, making your own movement has some seriously daunting precision requirements for a hobbyist
If you want to play about though you could order all the parts and assemble it yourself
@noelle huh, a rare portal to the nice, decent universe
@Elizafox
could you have set it up as a church instead?
@cypnk looks good, prefer ISO personally but that should do the job nicely
@shekkiesqueaks @Elizafox sorry, but yeah, you'd have to do it manually
can script it afterwards if you like though!
@shekkiesqueaks two radios, one connects to the hotel wifi, the other puts anything it receives through the vpn
Quick and dirty DIY is usually just a raspi zero or something with two radios plugged into it
@cypnk Ctrl key on the home row WHERE IT'S MEANT TO BE DAMNIT
I'll give you the Esc key placement though
@shekkiesqueaks also *pets*
@shekkiesqueaks basic idea is that your travel router connects to the hotel wifi, then you connect your stuff to the travel router
travel router has a vpn client on it that connects via the hotel wifi to your vpn server out in the internet somewhere
all the traffic it receives from your stuff it shoves through the vpn connection to the vpn server so all the hotel network sees is encrypted traffic
@codl there's still a leap between "they sell your info" to "HOLY SHIT THEY SELL YOUR INFO" that requires someone to think about it for a minute, which a lot of people don't
@Jo what they'd like people to think: "YOU CAN CLEAN A HAIRDRYER?! Why would anyone do that?"
@codl probably just the first time they've ever thought about it
@Jo no excuse, they just find it more profitable to have people buy new things when they break
@codl Cambridge Analytica stuff, people have found out that they're the product on facebook
@Jo I can get behind this, more things need to be easily repairable
Coolest thing at Baselworld this year, the Urwerk AMC
It's a mechanical watch that is set, regulated, and wound by an actual honest to god atomic clock
It is hella cool
Hedgehog wrangler, cat feeder, octopus whomst love smol critters
"i never thought someone could be such a watch nerd and yet here you are" ~ @maple
