i kind of want a full-metal keyboard. maybe parkerized gunmetal. i'm sure it would be heavy as shit. i'm sure the switches would need to be extra stiff. it'd probably cost fuck-hundred dollars. but i think about brushed metal textures and the want comes right back.

Firefox just updated and those shit eaters decided to add some ai slop search engine to the browser so make sure to go under your search settings and remove it like I'm about to.

@platinumtulip that's at least a fairly easy need to cater to, all that needs consideration is the CPU's single-core performance. no need to fret about what graphics card is in it.

i find there's somewhat less emulation community around the mac though; i had OpenEmu working well enough for the common stuff on my 2013 MacPro but there were some things it didn't support that I wish it did. (such as: my gamepad)

Truth be told though we're kind of looking at replacing Mom's and Grandma's computers anyway, because despite having Reasonable specs and upgrades (Grandma's has a SATA SSD, Mom's had that plus rocking 20 GB of DDR3 RAM), they're getting a bit long in the tooth.

Hvergelmir shall serve as the guinea pig for this unofficial Windows 10 ESU work around. If it seems like it holds and doesn't come with nasty side effects, it may need to get deployed to the rest of the family.

One of the earliest sign I knew AI chatbots was going to be horrible for mental health was actually from my lived experience of using speech-to-text transcription.

Context: I am deaf, and I was born that way, and I grew up with hearing aids and got my cochlear when I turned 15. The cochlear, by itself, improved my speech accuracy to 75% from 25% with dual hearing aids.

During the pandemic, my speech comprehension skills worsened due to fundamentally lossy audio quality over Zoom.

TIL xeyes in Debian trixie supports `-biblicallyAccurate` mode (thanks @turnipGod )

@insom @turnipGod I suspect I don't have that version of xeyes, but I did learn I can `-geometry [W]x[H]` to make them much larger than they ought to be.

β€œThe totally cool way to run and network your computer” sounds just as stupid as it did when I first got these boxes. I paid $2 for them at a HAM radio convention 11 years ago and they’ve just been sitting sealed ever since. Got them out of storage today and I think I’ll open them. (Thread time.)

🧡Thread. I collect photos that people took of their TV screens (in the days before home video) because they wanted to capture a historical moment, or at least something of personal significance.

New on the Secret Area, it's Cold Fear.

A Resident Evil-inspired survival horror game made by the folks who made Alone in the Dark: A New Nightmare. And it's surprisingly alright!

Shares and comments appreciated, as always.
