I'm handling this almost 100% the way I handled dealing with internalized homophobia. So many false assumptions and stereotypes I had to weed out before I could be a (somewhat, on my good days) functional, unashamed adult.

@Zumbador

I think for me it's that autism *can* be disabling, but autism isn't automatically and necessarily disabling.

And in typing that and re-reading it, maybe I'm trying to subdivide into groups or categories of autism. Or maybe not. I'll have to think about it more.

@Susan60 @actuallyautistic

@Susan60 @actuallyautistic Susan that makes a lot of sense to me. So instead of *autism* being the disorder, it's whatever - um - co morbidities, maybe? an autistic person might have that are the disability?

@Zumbador

If you're on (or start) any prescription medication, you *have* to discuss supplements with your doctor. So many of them can interact with prescription meds.

A load in the washing machine takes 50 minutes, a load in the dryer takes 70 minutes. I just start the timer on my watch, and when it goes off I go up and start the next load.
If I forget the set the timer, all bets are off - the laundry will never get done.

@hellomiakoda @JeremyMallin @actuallyautistic

I don't think I'll never not find it weird when I come across someone called Babar, Celeste, or Cornelius. Like, no, only elephants can be called that.

@woozle

Can confirm: my LG dryer plays a happy little tune when I start it, and it's practically giddy when the clothes are dry and it stops.

No, no time at all. The lights gradually get brighter, until I wake up naturally.
It did take a few days to fine-tune how long it took me to wake up, and there's still some variability. If I'm in a deep sleep cycle it'll take the full 15 minutes, if I'm in a light or REM sleep cycle, I'll wake up as soon as the lights come on.

@Momgoth

I got rid of my audible alarm clock by switching the lights in my bedroom to "smart" lights and programming them to simulate a sunrise, starting about 15 minutes before I need to be awake.
It's much more relaxing than being jarred out of sleep by MEH! MEH! MEH!

It's not true, there's no radiation (the way that word is commonly used). Microwaves are just a frequency of radio waves, like AM or FM.

Okay #blind community. I need help something. Recommendations for a kitchen thermometer that can be connected to an accessible app. I seem to recall iGrill brand used to have an accessible app. Any others?

I'm in a weird situation. I have three people I'd feel confident/comfortable calling for something really huge - like needing to be bailed out of jail - but no one I'd feel comfortable calling for lunch, or to go to a movie. The three people are busy / have families / have jobs. I just feel like I'm intruding if I call them.

@actuallyautistic

I used to make videos about books and language learning, but I wasn't really in the right headspace for it these past couple of years. But recently I've been wanting to pick up my camera again; I just love documenting things in my daily life that make me happy and talking about books!

What other people said. If she is avoiding you, trying to talk to her will only make her more convinced she did the right thing. If it's something completely unrelated to you, it won't hurt anything to let her strike up the conversation next time. Just smile, wave, be approachable, and let her take the initiative.
